View Full Version : Duke plate suggestions?

I moved to Colorado last summer and just bought a new truck. I want to get a personalized plate. I am limited to seven symbols. So far I've come up with the following possibilities:
DUKEGUY BLUDVLS DUKEMAN (top choices) ;)

DUKE 77 (my year) GO DUKE (good choices, but less umphh...)

I ruled out CRAZIES and CAMCRZY since people here wouldn't get it (and I already have a GTHC bumper sticker from several years ago, for a conversation starter).

I also thought of DUKE #1 and ILVDUKE, but my wife nixed those, since (though she is also a Duke grad) she works at the Univer. of Colorado (and I don't want to look like we have divided loyalties).

Are there other possibilities I am not think of? Thanks for any suggestions.

H8 UNC

(of course, if they get it, they will think it is the University of Northern Colorado).

Hmmm . . . if you have three favorites that you really like it sounds like you should buy two more cars.

Obviously, I am a big fan of "Duke Year" (and optional school, like E for engineering).

My brother has a plate that reads: UNCBLWS

He likes to keep it classy!:D

I figured since I have the GTHC bumper sticker I should go with something else.

I'm not sure what in my post suggested this question, El Diablo (unless you thought my ideas were too anal).

Actually, I am a semi-retired psychologist (FWIW)

Perhaps he was referring to a certain Seinfeld episode? (not Duke related, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fusilli_Jerry).

Here is a good reason to have an identifiable Duke plate (not that you really need another reason). Last summer I was taking my car in for its annual service. The service advisor, who I have dealt with for several years, says: "I've got a story you'll be interested in. I took my wife to Las Vegas last weekend for her birthday. We were having dinner and sitting at the table next to us was Coach K and his wife." I answered, "that makes sense, he's in town with the US National Team." What I was thinking was "how did he know to tell me that story?" I'm reviewing past conversations, what shirt I'm wearing, and then I realize (obviously) he identifies me and my car by its license plate.

Yeah, it was a Seinfeld allusion (not Duke-related, just vanity plate-related). Probably not a good idea though. ;)

How about: K4 ROY2

The license plate is a whole lot cooler, and more permanent, than the bumper sticker.

My Grandfather had the plate in my Avatar for many years, the one in the picture is from 1974 I believe. He tried to pass it on to my Dad but was not able to for some reason. I'd love to have this one back but apparently someone else has snatched it up. I like how it's to the point, nothing unclassy. I love the thought of a GTHC bumber sticker, but I wouldn't give them the satisfaction of knowing that I am thinking about them, even if it is to hate them.

I remember going to the Washie Duke before a game and seeing a plate (GA or VA I think) that read 'H8 UNC' - an earlier poster suggested it, and I have seen it in person.

In Colorado you should be able to come up with something good. Let us know what you come up with.

Personally, I wouldn't have a plate that was aimed at unc. I would support Duke, why give them any acknowledgment or recognition?

*LOL* that was my first thought as well. While I love the GTHCGTH i doubt any outside the Duke Nation would understand what it meant.

I'm in NC and have the luxury of having a plate with only K
Since I do some work with Duke basketball, that plate works wonders when looking for a parking place around CIS :o
I offered to sell the rights to the plate to Coach K several years ago and he politely declined!

Coach K is already beyond the 903 level, so I would make it "1000GOK" which we'll all celebrate in maybe three years.http://crazietalk.net/ourhouse/images/smilies/wizard.gif

That record won't be touched for decades after K if ever, he could easily finish his career with somewhere in the 1,200- 1,400 win range is he stays healthy:D

To reach 1,200 it would take about 10 year's if his team averages 30 wins a year. He's about 65 now, so...http://crazietalk.net/ourhouse/images/smilies/106.gif

Look at Jo Pa, not that I think Coach K will coach that long but he doesn't seem ready to hang it up any time soon, I wish the man could coach to 10,000 wins but I'll be realistic!!!

Clocker, welcome to Colorado from a '75 Dukie living at 8700 feet in the Rockies foothills. I remember the first time I picked up a Denver newspaper here, 15 years ago after I moved here. On one of the inner pages of the sports section I saw an article about UNC. My absolute disbelief that they could be talking about the Holes here three thousand miles away was shortly assuaged when I scanned the article and discovered that they were talking about the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. However, I do see more Holes paraphenalia here than Devils, I just don't understand it.
