I probably won't be able to make it home until around 9:30 or 10:00 tonight and I don't have any kind of dvr. Does anybody know if I will be able to get on ESPN3 then and start the game from the beginning, or will I have to wait for the game to be over and the replay to be posted? Thanks for the help. 9F

From what I've seen when I've been watching on ESPN3, it starts up where the game is at if you are watching while it is going on. During the game it isn't listed under the replay tab. Once it shows under the replay tab, then it will start at the beginning.

I know this is completely irrelevent in your situation currently, but in the future, you can consider a tuner card for your computer. It essentially allows the cable to plug into your computer and you can watch tv on it, with the caveat that you can also use it like a dvr and save shows and such....much cheaper than a real dvr

That's a good question, I can't remember whether you can rewind the live stream or not. I want to say that you can rewind a live stream but I would double check during a live event later today. It looks like there are several friendly matches to test with starting at 2:15 today.

Good luck and remember that the ESPN3 feed is only available outside of the ACC market. If you're in market, you can also stream from http://theacc.com/live/ (I have no idea if that can be restarted or not)

EDIT: Here are the details on the game viewing and the Internet streaming... http://www.theacc.com/live/2011_bb_match_center_unc_at_duke.html Just noticed your profile says VA, which is in the ACC market, so no ESPN3 for you.

If your computer is in Virginia, you may want to check to see if the game will be on ESPN3 at all - it may be blacked out. The game should be available on raycomsports.com.

Here's the blackout map:

I hope that black out map is accurate, because I live in central SC and I usually always have to watch the Duke-UNC game on Raycom, which sucks! Raycom doesn't have High Def, so it's like watching on a 1980's console TV. Even thought the ESPN announcers are usually annoying, the picture is 1000 times better quality!! But according to the map, I am in the blue area. Crossing my fingers!!

Raycom now broadcasts in HD (although I guess the local affiliate has to have an HD channel).

Here are their channel listings. Columbia and Charleston list ESPN. (Columbia actually says it will be carried on local affiliate and ESPN, so you probably have a choice of the channel of your choosing).

im pretty sure that you can't rewind a live game on espn3. If i remember right you have to wait roughly an hour after the game for it to pop up in the replay section of the site

You can rewind when you start watching, but if you are trying to not know what has happened yet, it is tough to avoid seeing the score in the instant you turn it on.

(and legal) to record an ESPN3 stream with a computer akin to a dvr?

(and legal) to record an ESPN3 stream with a computer akin to a dvr?

Something like this?

http://camstudio.org/

CamStudio is able to record all screen and audio activity on your computer and create industry-standard AVI video files and using its built-in SWF Producer can turn those AVIs into lean, mean, bandwidth-friendly Streaming Flash videos (SWFs)

Note that I haven't used that software, so I can't say I recommend it or not. So, use at your own risk. I'd imagine the same laws apply as they do to a standard DVR recording. You can most likely make copies for personal use; it would be illegal to sell and distribute such recording. (But I'm not a copyright attorney ;) )

Edit: Here are some reviews of it: http://download.cnet.com/CamStudio/3000-13633_4-10067101.html

Here are other video capture software options: http://download.cnet.com/windows/video-capture-software/?tag=mncol

Looks like HyperCam is the most popular:

I live in NC (reasonably near Duke) and have watched plenty of games on ESPN3.

My guess is the blackout for the unc game is more related to the fact that Raycom has the regional broadcast rights to the game than to any ESPN3 issues. Oh well, no Dickie V tonight.

Which DOES raise an interesting question: Assuming ESPN replays the game (delayed) would that also be blocked out, or just the "live" broadcast at 9 pm EST???

As for the "no HD" comments: All of the games I've watched on Raycom this season have been in HD.

Yes, the ACC Network blackout discussed only applies to today's game (and the BC game previously). Typically ESPN/ESPN3 wouldn't be blacked out.

Luckily, Duke is popular enough to warrant national coverage on a regular basis unlike some other lesser programs (cough, UNC, cough).
