I don't know if this is the proper place to post this, but I figured it was better here than the off-topic board.

If you have not heard, Tom Walter, the head baseball coach at Wake, has donated his kidney to a freshman on the baseball team who was a top 100 recruit and recently experienced kidney failure. No family members were matches for the player, but Walter was.

CNN has got it on their page now as well. Shows true spirit of sportsmanship and values. Good luck and prayers to both.

Amazing story. It is interesting that the NCAA has gotten on coaches for giving clothes or meals to needy players. This certainly and rightfully challenges what is and what is not an improper gift.

In life's long run, character is the essential success variable, and Coach Walter obviously has an abundance of it. I cannot overstate my appreciation and esteem for his conduct and his values, extending FAR beyond basketball.

We lived next door to each other Senior year of high school. Great guy. Great athlete. High School basketball stud as a 6'3" guard with all kinds of moves to get to the rim.

I'm in complete agreement with you dukelifer. How can Rick Majerus be reprimanded for buying Keith Van Horn dinner at a Salt Lake City deli after having to be the one who told him his father just passed away, but a coach can give a kidney to a kid. I think it's a recruiting ploy to get other top talented recruits to campus!

No fault with Coach Walter whatsoever (what a remarkably selfless act), but what a joke the NCAA is in trying to live up to some higher moral standard over the years.

Kidney = no monetary value

The black market might disagree with you there.

Win or lose on the field, Wake Forest's baseball coach is a Champion that the university, and the entire profession of teaching, can look up to and be extremely proud of.
