Just heard one of the funniest lines ever on local radio. The famous "Joe in Raleigh" - obnoxious Duke fan said something along these lines: Got give Roy a lot of credit as he's the only coach in America that could turn Harrison Barnes into Jason Capel.

I met Jason when he was an 8th grader, and thought he was a nice kid. His brother helped take a team to the championship game and really played hard for Duke. So I think this joke is mean spirited and shouldn't be told by a Dukie.

...and he's one of the ugliest human beings on the face of the earth. Seriously, the man looks like a horse.

But he did get his own cheer from the Crazies:

"Jeff is bet-ter clap clap clap clap clap"

Jason was one of three 1998 McDonald's All Americans who went to UNC, along with Ronald Curry and Kris Lang. That trio doesn't seem so formidable in hindsight.

Well he is currently kicking butt and taking names @ App St. Just ask Bob McKillop. Can't believe he finally quit working at the gas station and bothering Mark Packer long enough to get a coaching gig. App St. must be in dire circumstances.

Which gus' post made pretty clear.

The treatment of the Capels by their respective fanbases was a lowpoint for both programs. I don't think we need to add any more insults to the mix.

I was typing this response to the other thread and it was closed before I could post it. Since it is somewhat of a positive defense of Jason I'll let the mods either merge it into the closed thread or do what they want to with it, but I wanted to post it.

I heard Jason's interview yesterday on 99TheFan, I think on David Glenn's show (but it might have been Adam Gold's). He was asked about how difficult it was to hire an NC State grad to his staff, and he said it wasn't, because he was a teammate back in 8th grade, predating college rivalries. Also, he said he had many friends on rival schools, including Duke players and State players - rivalries were for the fans, not so much for the players, at least when he was in school. For those of you who were around back then, many of our guys and their guys used to get there hair cut at the same Durham barber shop. We had discussions here about how "appropriate" that was. LOL.

Jason also talked about talking to his dad and brother Jeff daily, that they were his best friends and closest advisers. He really came across very well in the interview. I hold no ill will towards him and wish him well at App State, which is about 8 miles to my northeast of my current position as I type this.
