It's so nice to have a program where the kids are not only talented, but also extremely smart and very poised. Can't wait to see him play for Duke.

He mentions his little brother, Spencer, whom I hadn't heard much about so I decided to do a quick search. To get moved to varsity on a team as stacked as Austin's is a big deal. Of course, everything is about Austin but I did find one clip.

He's not Austin's height but he's got time - Austin just grew quite a bit himself.

In the vid, Spencer shows off some moves very reminiscent of big bro.

We should offer him. What year will that be? Can we start a thread? there is a pretty slick guard on my son's 11-12 year old team - I think Duke should offer him too! ;)

Like it or not, there were folks on this board who were talking about MP3 when he was in like the 7th grade...

If Chelsea Gray and Kyrie Irving had a son, I'd offer right away.

Is it too early to start a 2028 recruiting thread?

I have seen him play a few times. He would need a serious growth spurt to earn a Division I scholarship offer. I will say he is a fearless player.

Austin Rivers had 42 points in the City of Palms tournament game tonight.

Check the comment from Dave Telep (http://twitter.com/DaveTelep/status/17041619807109120)

If the Boston Celtics have bring your son to work day, one of their current guards will be out of a job.

Here's another chance to watch Austin Rivers in action. (not sure which game he will be in since the semis haven't been played yet)

Austin talks of his being a magnet for Duke with concerns to younger prospects, his defense and more in these video clips from last evening where he dropped 35 on University in a tune up game for St. Pat's tonight. http://bluedevilnation.net/2011/01/austin-rivers-drops-35-on-university-and-talks-duke-basketball-with-bdn-video/

Cool video interview of Austin Rivers talking about his game last week, upcoming trip to Duke this weekend, and being like a magnet for other recruits.

I had never really heard Austin speak at length before. I had no idea that he was THAT polished and articulate. I mean, the guy has Battier and Grant Hill-level media presence. Impressive.

Found a new Austin River's interview from DraftExpress.

Found it interesting that he said he's going to be like Kyrie Irving. Not that I don't think he's as good of a talent but I don't see him with the ball in his hands as much as a 2 guard *shrugs*

Per the Kyrie Irving quote in the excellent (though short) interview: I think that Austin means that much as Coach K tried not to "over-coach" Kyrie, the staff will try not to restrict Austin too much. This doesn't mean that Austin will be asked to do exactly what Kyrie did. However, he will be asked to run a lot of the offense by playing to his strengths and instincts. Austin certainly has the ball-handling skills to be the primary ball-handler. I would assume, however, that the staff expects Austin's scoring to lead to opportunities for teammates rather than vice-versa as is most often expected for point guards. I think Austin will look for his own shot (which he can get most of the time against almost anyone) and, if that's not there or if the defense is over-helping on him, he'll look to dump the ball off to a Plumlee or Seth or Dre in the corner. This is actually similar to how the Lakers have used Kobe as a creator or the Heat used Wade in the past prior to Lebron's arrival. Even the Spurs' Tony Parker looks to score first before becoming a distributor. As long as Austin shows good instincts about when to score and when to pass, his scoring ability alone will be a weapon that will open up the floor for everyone else.
