That thud you heard on Thursday night was the sound of Georgetown unexpectedly crashing back down to earth with its loss at Temple. During the week that was, Georgetown joined Pitt, UNLV, Memphis, Notre Dame and Boise State as the most recent teams find themselves looking up at The Unbeaten.

Last week’s notable performances among The Unbeaten included Syracuse’s statement win over Michigan State in the Jimmy V Classic, Tennessee’s impressive victory over Pitt and BYU’s shellacking of Arizona.

We have fourteen undefeated Division I teams remaining with a conference breakdown as follows:

4 Big East
2 Big 10
2 Big 12
2 Mountain West
1 ACC
1 Conference USA
1 SEC
1 Horizon League

As we head into exams for most schools over the next couple of weeks, schedules for The Unbeaten get light and soft. This week’s slate features only one game that matches an undefeated squad against a team with a Pomeroy ranking better than 50.

At 12-0, Cleveland State has the best record in Division I and looks poised to challenge Butler for Horizon League supremacy. Cleveland State does not have a signature win yet and has not played a team with a Pomeroy ranking better than 100 this season, but that will change this week when it visits West Virginia in what should be its most difficult matchup of the season.

Here’s the full landscape heading into the week of 12/13:

On Monday, San Diego State was missing two of its starters (including Kawhi Leonard, their leading scorer) due to illness but survived Cal Poly San Luis Obispo behind a double-double (18-15) from Malcolm Thomas, 51-45.

In its first action in almost two weeks, Northwestern comfortably dispatched Long Island, 81-65.

They went down tonight to Oakland. Oakland is a pretty good team, very versitile.

Assuming they're not upset in the Summit League Tourney, I'd hate to be the team to play them in the first round. Not likely to be Duke (I imagine Oakland is a 13-14 seed if they make the tourney), but still.

Oakland's win over Tennessee is sure to make the michigan state Spartans feel better about nearly losing to them last week. Their big man Benson is one of the best returning players in the country. They are no joke but certainly quite an upset.
