It is hard to find any faults or places to improve with the start of this year but!!!
I know it is only eight games into the season but the level of competition has seen a good mix of higher ranked teams along with well not as higher ranked teams.
Here are stat from last year and this year along with the ranking among all teams:
2009-2010 2010-2011
Scoring 78.4 (23) 89.3 (4)
FG% 44.2 (133) 49.7 (18)
Rebs. 39.3 (22) 38.8 (72)
3pt % 38.5 (24) 42.3 (15)
FT% 75.9 (9) 74.0 (45)
asst 14.1 (86) 17.0 (20)
With the up tempo that we were going to play and the additional three point shooters (Kyrie and Seth), I thought we would average ten more points per game. Everyone has to be pleased with these improvements over last year except for the free throw and rebound percentage. A decrease of 1.9% for free throws is not much but the Plumlee's (Mason 41% & Miles 61%) have to improve in this area. The competition will start utilizing the Shaq strategy. The UNC-UK game yesterday saw Carolina hit 14-16 of the last free throws. Kentucky kept scoring at the end but could not take the lead because of Carolina's free throws. We all know how many close games are decided at the line. Of course, Coach could take them out at the end of games but there will be times that we can not go small. One of these will be against our rival with Zeller, Henson and Barnes all over 6:8. To end on a positive note the field goal percentage and three point percentage improvements are impressive.
