This is a very important, even solemn, day for Marines all across the world whether deployed to some hostile climb, or safely at home with friends and family. There are formal celebrations that take place every year wherever there are Marines. They are parties of unequaled jolly good times with good food and libations of great variety. We Marines have been fortunate for many years that the day after the Marine Corps Birthday is Veteran's Day, formerly Armistice Day, a Federal holiday that allows for celebrating Marines to recover fully before returning to duty.

Happy Birthday today, and Happy Veterans Day tomorrow.

Thank you for all you have done to keep our nation safe. Thank you to the Marines who have protected us. Thank you to the Marines who continue to serve, whether here or in far-flung lands. Thank you to those Marines who are represented by a cross, or a Star of David, or any other symbol, because you gave your lives to give us the opportunities that we have in this country.

We love you, and we can never thank you enough.
