After blowing out the Heels at Cameron earlier in the season, our young women repeated the feat at Carmichael on Saturday, winning in straight games, 25-14, 25-16, 25-19. The Devils hit .342 as a team, and held Carolina to an anemic .121. Claire Smalzer and Amanda Robertson led the Devils with 11 kills each.
Duke now leads the ACC by one game over Carolina, with five matches left. There is no tournament in volleyball, so the AQ goes to the regular season champion. Of Duke's five remaining matches, four are against teams in the bottom half of the standings, and they get fifth-place VaTech at home.
Although Duke is unranked in the AVCA coaches poll, it is number eight in the RPI. If they win out, a favorable draw in the NCAA tournament is real possibility.
