I think the NCAA should leave it up to the coaching staff to decide if a transfer was valuable enough as a practice contributor to warrant a championship ring. Feel bad for him, but I did find an article/blog somewhere (that I linked months ago on the Seth Curry thread I believe) where he states that not receiving a ring makes him want it more. He'll be hungry.

I assume that the NCAA has specific rules allowing these to be awarded, but does that strike anyone else as strange? They are so obsessed with players not receiving any benefits as a consequence of their participation in college athletics (other than an education), so how do they justify allowing what look to be expensive prizes?

Winners get perks. I think that is a perfectly fine message to send to athletes, students, and the general public, because its true outside of sports as well.

Sure. I think that's fine. But it does seem like a bit of cognitive dissonance for the NCAA, where winning schools get lots of perks and winning players go back to class. I mean, the NCAA would never allow the cash value of these "perks" to be given directly to players, and I think that's a pretty arbitrary distinction.

I posted it in the Seth Curry thread, but the value is limited to $415. These things end up for sale sometimes from older titles, and every college ring that I see has CZ's and is either 10K gold or non-gold, so "look" appears to be the operative word and not "expensive."

Ahh, very interesting. I couldn't imagine they were getting Super Bowl rings.
