View Full Version : Duke Blue Devil's jersey number?

I was just asking myself if the Blue Devil will wear #1 this season, since that is now Kyrie's number. Then I did some googling of images realized that he's worn all sorts of numbers. The big headed guy wore 52, 50, 1 and 2 in the past. (I'm sure there were others, those are just the pics I found.) The new one has worn 1. How does his number get chosen, anyone know?

I'm pretty sure that the Blue Devil has to wear number 1... I was told that Kyrie will wear the head during games. It will cut down on his "court vision," but he can use the trident on defense.

Will he be allowed to use the Duke Band to surfboard him across the court? Or is that considered interference?

It hasn't been announced publicly yet. If I has to guess, I'd say the Devil's number will be revealed this weekend.

I saw an interview a while back with Jay Williams and Kyrie Irving and Jay said when he came to Duke he wanted to wear #1 but K told him no Duke was #1. This will be the 1st player ever under K to wear the #1.

I think the devil should wear 99 because its a cool number, or 04 for the #of rings!

It could be 4 - representing national championships. 5 would be nice as in quest for, but of course Mason has that this year, so 4 would make sense.

I'm not sure how they do it currently but the old Devil would just wear an old player jersey. For example, when he wore number 2 a few years ago, it was literally an old McBob jersey, name and all, but the name was just covered up by the cape. That goes for the last version of the old Devil (circa 06-08). I'm sure that the method has changed a few times over the years.

If #4 is suiting up again, I'd prefer him to be knocking down threes instead of surfing over band members:)

I predict that CTC will be the beginning of the new year on DBR, as we struggle meanwhile to find things to talk about.

I look forward to some amazing posts from those in attendance Friday night and a great series of discussions about the 2011 Devils.

It would not surprise me at all if he did wear #55 this year. Channeling Zoubs sounds like a good idea to me!

I'm way in favor of that. It would be a great way of saying "thanks" without hanging the jersey. I think the beard needs to stay on the original though. :)

It won't be #45 as a walk on apparently has that in this Duke guard practice drill video.

I would also be OK with picking up the previous #4 when his right metacarpal heals. ;)

I had assumed since the tweet was current, the drill was.

I should have noticed coach Jarvis and also Daniel Ewing making it about 3-4 years ago.

The Blue Devil wore a Kyrie Irving jersey at C2C.

It might change though...last year the Blue Devil wore #2 at C2C.
