Just thought I'd pass this bit of info around. Demarcus Nelson's little brother Darius committed to UTEP.

Good luck Darius!

BTW, does anyone know where Demarcus is playing currently?

Demarcus played with the Bucks in the summer league, Wiki says he has since signed with a team in France. Good news on his brother..I know he is a BIG kid, which was a concern as he was developing his game the last couple years.
3 caliber recruits on the same high school team? They're gonna be a hell of a team I'm sure. Interesting to see that Oklahoma (IE Jeff Capel) was recruiting Nelson pretty heavily, that would have been a fun matchup to watch.

I'm dismayed that Darius turned down Jeff Capel to play for Tim Floyd. I'm a homer for Jeff, and OU has not been without its own stress of late, and perhaps he didn't get any other D 1 offers, and UTEP has the important legacy thing in its favor, but it seems odd to choose a) to leave northern California for El Paso, which if you haven't been there is pretty much what you'd expect, and--more importantly--b) choose to get coached by a vagabond guy whose last job ended with 21 vacated wins (related to Floyd apparently handing $1000 to one of OJ Mayo's agents) and his abandoning his job late in the off season as they were heading into sanctions (thereby screwing up his team and school). Odds seem in favor of this not going well, since, if Floyd is successful, he'll want a BCS job, and if he's unsuccessful, they're all unsuccessful.

unpleasant reading:

And here's Larry Brown opining on who will last longer at their respective jobs, Steve Lavin or Floyd:

On the other hand, Floyd has personal roots in the town (his father played there, etc) and the NCAA hasn't banned him (the NCAA tends to wreck the careers of innocent incoming basketball players rather than go after the middle aged wrongdoers like Floyd, Pearl, and Calipari).

A more even account: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/columns/story?columnist=oneil_dana&id=5551010

Anyway, none of it is savory.

C'mon DeMarcus, be big brotherly and get him to a different school!

On the front page story it says he is 6' 7"and 250. He may be 250- he is big- but he is not 6' 7"- just like Demarcus was not 6' 4" as he was listed his entire career. Darius may be 6' 4" and not much of a leaper - just saying.
