Has any Duke athlete ever accomplished more in a shorter period of time than Ned Crotty?

In a ten-week period, Ned:

-- led Duke to its first national championship in men's lax;
-- scored the tying and winning goals for the United States in the final of the world championship; and
-- was named rookie of the year in Major League Lacrosse.

Congrats to Ned. We're proud of you.

In that 10 week period, he also won the Tewaaraton Trophy, given annually to the best player in college lacrosse. Amazing!

He also won the McKelvin Award, as the ACC's top male athlete. Think about for a second. Each school can nominate one male and one female athlete. Duke chose to nominate Crotty rather than a member of the basketball team.

Wow, I just strolled past the University Club in DC where the trophy resides. Went in to see it again. What a coincidence...btw, it is a really cool trophy. Picture next time.

Yes, and not only that, but he is (according to the article on goduke.com) only the second lacrosse player from any school ever to win this award.

That he chose to come to Duke after the fiasco when others bailed. Congratulations Ned and thanks for being a Blue Devil.

Just to be accurate-- Ned Crotty was a freshman in 2006 (the shortened season), and a member of the final class that the NCAA granted an extra year of eligibility.

Yes. Max Quinzani and Parker McKee are among the players who chose to come to Duke in the fall of 2006 despite the program's uncertain situation, when at least three players, including Virginia's defensive star Ken Clausen, took their option to go elsewhere. It's very nice the risk they took was rewarded with a championship.

Thanks. I confused Ned with Max Quinzani on this point. After all they were practically joined at the hip. :)
