This topic has been on my mind for a while. After seeing Seth in person it made me realize just how much he will help the team.

Yes - we have guards but we also have something we haven't really had since JDub - and that's a KILLER crossover.

Last year we had 1 player with a pretty good crossover. This year - we have THREE with SICK crossovers.

Nolan currently holds the title for sickest crossover for his slo-mo move against GT in the ACC title game. But Kyrie stands to put up some highlights of his own this year. Seth will be a strong third place.

I can't ascertain how much guard work that Kyle was truly able to put in this summer but if he's added a crossover as well then I just may faint about twice a game. I'd say he comes in 4th here with a few out on the perimeter that will shock all of us.

Bringing up the rear will be Dawkins (who I expect to do more slashing like Gerald was used), Kelly (his handle is legit), and Mason (I just know he's good for at least one jaw dropping full court play).

I'm really excited about this year's team. UNC better tape up those J's...

That was one of favorite plays all season, what makes even better is that Drew reaches in after Nolan had blown by him.

Yeah, and what makes it so dangerous is that Nolan, Curry, and I assume Irving are all good-to-excellent shooters as well to keep the defense honest. To quote draft express during the NCAA tournament:

"Is there a more complete guard in college basketball than Nolan Smith? Besides Evan Turner, I haven't seen one. We whiffed on him all year."

And yeah, I'd also put Nolan's crossover on Drew as the best of the season, though I admit I don't remember that GT one offhand.

It was Glen Rice Jr. and I think it was in the ACC title game. It was amazing and Rice seriously went out after the play with a sore ankle. It used to be on Youtube, but now I can't find it for all of the other Nolan highlights. He has so many now.

Nolan had a crossover in one of the Pro Am games that broke both ankles and wrists on 2 different defenders on the same play. He froze them both then somehow got one defender to go left and the other to go right and he drove right between them. Sick sick sick.

In that same game he broke every bone in some poor kid's body with a crossover. I think Airowe posted a video on that one in the Pro Am thread.

All that said, my favorite Nolan play of the year came on the play T-Baller mentioned in his post. I could watch that over and over all day.

Great topic.. thanks for posting it..with Nolan, Kyrie, and Seth opposing guards are going to have nightmares all year...

I caught a few minutes of USA vs France game and was surprised when Rose was whistled for a carry. Even though it was an obvious carry by traditional definition, it would definitely never be whistled in NBA and NCAA for that matter. It seemed to me that last season NCAA refs were very lenient on carries. Players were getting away with taking a big double-step on one foot in mid-dribble, effectively palming the ball, then crossing over, giving them a huge advantage on the defender. I'm not complaining, just was curious if anyone noticed it was more wide open last season. I'm hoping it remains that way because it will help the best guards exploit defenders even more.

(Ahem... Nolan, Kyrie, Seth)

"Is there a more complete guard in college basketball than Nolan Smith? Besides Evan Turner, I haven't seen one. We whiffed on him all year."

Great and extremely accurate quote. And Nolan still doesn't get this just deserts when it comes to his future. I still don't understand that. He may be a little undersized, but he's proven to successfully guard larger SGs. In addition, he may have the best mid-range jump shot in the NCAA! I really hope he's a first rounder next year, and I'm betting that he'll once again prove his doubters wrong.

THANK YOU for posting this -- I haven't seen it in years and it's one of my favorite ACC highlights of all time at the expense of UNC. I never understood how (a) Childress and Duncan didn't get a championship together (even though Duncan was still very young when Childress was there; and, (b) why Childress didn't have a great NBA career.

Nolan's crossover three last night was just stupendous.

Yes, that was Kyle with the crossover three in the corner as well...

Kyrie also had a couple of spectacular crossovers last night.

I'm loving it...

Just had to bring this thread back bc of Nolan's emphatic crossing over of none other than Tim Hardaway Jr. - son of Mr. Crossover himself. Never did I envision what I saw today but this year has had some pretty special crossover moments - none more special than today's...

That was an awesome move by Nolan and I can't believe it didn't make the ESPN highlights. Tim Hardaway's dad was known for his own wicked crossover move back in the day. Looks like Junior needs some more practice staying on his feet!
