In the story posted on the main page regarding Sendek's feeling unfairly labeled, I'm not sure if he actually said his teams were not slow. However, taking the DBR challenge in the story lead-in, I compiled the tempo ranks of his teams from Pomeroy's data, which goes back to the 2003-04 season.

Year Team Rank
09-10 ASU 326
08-09 ASU 333
07-08 ASU 315
06-07 ASU 329
05-06 NCSU 209
04-05 NCSU 287
03-04 NCSU 292

So, the fastest team Sendek has coached in the last seven years was ranked 209 out of 334, the 37th percentile. That team was an aberration, as the next fastest, 04-05, was in the 13th percentile, and the four seasons at ASU hit at about the 4 percentile mark or lower.

So yeah, his teams are to slow pace what VMI is to fast.

Yeah, Sendek has a point in that he doesn't run the Princeton offense. But he doesn't have a point with regard to pace. His team plays REALLY slow.

Of course, he can't say to a recruit, "yeah, we're going to play at a really slow tempo." It's not sexy to advertise that you play slow. So this is just standard salesmanship.
