Nolan is simply one of the most likable athletes out there. Even this anti-Duke guy agrees:

I must confuse - I have always had a man crush on Nolan. Both of these articles just further confirm that. Everything that Nolan stands for - work hard, play hard, never give up, be a great teammate, enjoy live, be competitive - it's what every college bball player should strive to be.

Nolan's fun-loving attitude is refreshing. He is clearly a mature bball player who enjoys goofing around. I remember an assistant coach saying that Duke has a monopoly on goofy white kids. I'd say we have a monopoly on all goofy kids.

Agree with all of the above^..Nolan is going to have a great season. Could not happen to a nicer young man. What great senior leadership Duke will have this year. Go Duke!

Thanks for posting those DevilHorns, those are great articles.

I love the work ethic that this kid puts in. I will be getting my 3rd knee surgery in October (very nervous already) and its guys like Nolan that I will be picturing and thinking about when doing my rehab. I know our goals are completely different, but just having the mentality of never giving up, no matter how much it hurts will help me get through it.

The hits just keep coming for you huh? Best of luck on the surgery and rehab. You will get through it all and be better than before!!

I love Nolan Smith. He is one of the funniest kids I can remember. His sense of humor from the video last year (Titanic parody) to his Blue Planet clips, he just seems like he would be a great team mate. NOT ONLY THAT, he was to me the best player on the court for us last year. I know that is a very objective opinion and can be debated (I can ever debate myself: Scheyer, Singler, pick one) but I had said before the season started last year that we would go as far as Nolan would take us, and he did not dissappoint. He played amazingly well!!

I believe that if folks like Gary Parrish would actually spend time with all the Duke players and staff they would realize that the Duke hate is totally unfounded and just a backlash from jealous fans and media types trying to create a villian to sell more stories.

Good stuff. Nolan is so likable, and so personable... it is no surprise to me that he is the most publicly visible Devil that I can remember (thanks, in part, to the internet.) His serious connections among so many players is big byproduct of it.

The bayweekly link isn't working for me. Does it work for everyone else?

It isn't working for me either so I hunted around on Bay Weekly and found this:

When we beat Baylor, all I could do was sit and sob at the emotions Nolan must have had running through him. He one upped it a week later in Indy and I envision he will two up it next year (hopefully that made some sense). The long and short of Nolan is/was he has not gotten to where he is not solely on talent (while he has plenty), he has transformed himself into one of the most unguardable players in the country by putting in the necessary time to be a champion.

If you would have told me that we lose G and end up winning the National Championship prior to last year, I would have asked you what brown bottle you were sipping. However, upon Nolan's return after the two game hiatus, it was apparent good things were brewing.

While I am looking forward to next season, I do not look forward to saying goodbye to two of the classiest men to ever wear a Duke uniform (Kyle and Nolan). These guys epitomize what being a Duke fan is all about. We may not always have the most talented team but we will never be outworked. Book it!
