ESPN crawl just announced he has died. Kidney failure and skin disease. 47 years old. Selfless guy, and a hard way to go.

RIP Big Guy, the game of basketball and the world will miss him.

Never saw a three he didn't like. He was a 7-and-a-half-footer who played with the zeal of a guard.

RIP indeed.

Nice ball player, incredible guy. Did anything and everything he could to help out folks hurting in his native Sudan. Other NBA players have gone broke spending money on drugs, cars, women, etc. Bol spent himself into the poorhouse helping build hospitals, camps for kids(one of which Luol got his start at IIRC), and lots more. Sad to hear of his passing.

WOW!

This is terrible. R.I.P.

Manute was definitely one of the genuine guys in the sport.

"I'll tell you this -- if everyone in the world was a Manute Bol, it's a world I'd want to live in." -- Charles Barkley

It is great that a man such as Manute had a chance to gain the fame and fortune that the NBA offers, b/c only a man such as he would use that money and fortune to try to help better the lives of others. The world is a poorer place now that he is gone, may others who share the fortunate nature of his life apply his attitude to help others.

Rest in peace. He has left the world, and particularly the people of Sudan, an incredible legacy.

Very sad indeed. In a world in which there are far too often NBA players far more concerned with their own fame than their legacy, Manute Bol was a great example of what I think we wall want out of the athletes we devote hours to. To him, the NBA was a gift that he had a duty to share with those less fortunate than he. He was far more than a tall basketball player and I think the world is worse off for his passing. Rest in peach Manute, you certainly earned it.

So sad to read this. He left the world better than he found it, which is a marvelous legacy.
