At those prices, I certainly hope that the seniors are getting a cut of the profits. Not sure that's allowed, though.

Huh?

You could have been at the game for that.

OUCH! What happened to the $35 plain piece of floor? I've got the Final Tipoff linked here
http://www.shopdukestores.duke.edu/ePOS/this_category=22&store=106&form=shared3/gm/main.html&design=106
and paid about the same price, plus a piece of the 2001 floor that I bought at the storefront in Cameron for ~$35 or $40 several years ago. I'd like a piece of the 2010 floor, but not for $130 and up.

As for the $200 autographed pieces, you'll notice that only the seniors have signed them, so it would be legal for them to be compensated, and they probably are. Just not by me.

A Florida fan I know has a piece of the 2007 national championship floor (the one that is painted with a replica of the full-court), which he bought for $200. That same design is selling for $700 for this Duke court.

The problem with these court pieces is that they all feature autographs on them, which, from my knowledge, is normally not the case in these types of sales. That's why the costs are so damn high, which is unfortunate, because I'd like to have a piece.

I would pay $200 for a large painted portion of the court. I won't pay $700 for the large version, though, and certainly not $200 for a 6x6 piece, even if Jon's autograph is adorned on it. Why does that concern me? I already have five Jon autographs, including the one that rests among the rest of the members of the team on my autographed 2010 team poster.

No thanks.

Out of curiousity, what do the profits go toward? Duke University as a whole, some private entity that produces them, or what?

Unless the prices come down, I'll stick with my pen made from a portion of the floor in Cameron when I was a student.

The selections are kind of lame. Ozzie's right, the previous ones are much cooler and classier.

I get the sense that there will be less expensive versions available later. They say they will be on sale "throughout the year".

My goodness, I have three different pieces of "Duke" floors. Each of them is much more attractive than any one of these.

I was waiting to purchase another but will pass if these are the only options.

I got a good laugh out of that. How awesome would that be? If I had Bill Gates type money I would do it in a second!!

As far as I know, the NCAA gives the national championship floor to the university. Therefore I would assume that a cut of the profits made from this go to duke, and a cut go to the company thats actually producing these little tidbits

I'm sorry, even with it being the National Championship floor, I could never justify paying $130 bucks for a 6x6 piece of glorified wood. Does this make me a bad fan?!

Here are the options for KU (2008) and UNC (2009). I'm guessing Duke will get more affordable options later.

Amen OZ. I've actually got the $35 version of both the Cameron Floor and the 2001 floor. I was hoping to make a nice set of 3 on the wall, but geez... these versions are awfully gawdy. Yeesh.

Oh... and by the way... to whoever said, "Guess I'll wait til next year." Let me just tell you that in 2001, I stood in the Bookstore with several pieces of memorabilia in my arms, considered the price, and then said to myself "Well... I should probably put some of this back, since I'll be able to get more stuff next year."

I'm not sayin'... I'm just sayin'.

I don't think people are suggesting waiting to buy 2011 memorabilia. I think they are suggesting waiting until 2011 to buy discounted 2010 memorabilia.

I mean, you can still buy pieces of the Cameron floor from 1997.

Not to me, but I'm probably in the minority too. I can't help but suspect that subconsciously there's a degree of superstition at play. The wood of the court had nothing to do with the win, it could be any wood, really, the signatures are but a hurried scribble, and at bottom, none of the great skill, sportsmanship, and dedication of our players is going to rub off on us. It's kind of the reverse reaction that psychologist Bruce Hood found when he held up a sweater and asked his class who would be willing to try it on - and most hands went up. Then he told them that it belonged to a serial killer - and most hands went down. We've somehow evolved a belief that inanimate objects become imbued with the essence of those with whom they were associated. So in our case, the wood floor beckons us to associate with champions.

It seems to me that, at a conscious level, you might just think of it as a thing to decorate your home or office. But aesthetically, to me, you'd need a piece large enough to be recognizable as part of the particular floor, not merely a piece of wood with a logo stamped on it. I would think the latter could be found for considerably less money.
