From the official NCAA Final Four Championship Notes (April 5, 2010). The first note reads:
"Butler finished runnerup in its first NCAA championship game appearance. The Bulldogs received unofficial men's basketball titles in 1924 and 1929."
Bad night for the Tar Heels -- not only does their lead in NCAA titles go from 5-3 to 5-4, the NCAA points out that Butler, not UNC, is the correct recipient of the 1924 championship. I guess actually winning the AAU championship on the court counts more than having the business manager of a bakery retroactively award you a championship 18 years after the fact.
