So last night was a big day for finales but I think the best one, by far, was the Office Season Finale (Grey's Anatomy was a DISASTER, IMO). I probably laughed for about two minutes straight when Stanley and Dwight had the following exchange:

Dwight: "What is the ratio of Schrutebucks to Stanley Nickels?"
Stanley: " The same as the ratio of unicorns to leprechauns"

Ahh classic. Anyhow, here is my question to the DBR community. What do you think happened to Karen? I think Jim is too nice just to leave her in NYC alone and I know Rashida Jones (Karen's real-life name) has a new pilot on Fox...

She has to be. I thought maybe he left her in NYC too, but yeah that would be more like something Michael would do, not Jim.

I didn't like how it ended with Jim asking Pam out on a date. That was very, very weak - no suspense, nothing. I'm sure they'll throw us a curveball in the next season premier, but still, I didn't like that part one bit. Ryan getting the job was hilarious, and I also enjoyed the Pam-Dwight interaction.

My only hesitation about Karen is that I don't really think the writers could just let her leave like that. I mean, doesn't that deserve at least a two-episode flashback/ramifications arc? The Karen-Jim-Pam love triangle is too important to just sweep under the rug!

I agree that Karen is soon gone.

I liked the end of the episode...Jim asking Pam out was excellent, and the way they worked into her interview was nice writing. I think that they will resolve Karen, even if it is in a quick, 2 minute interview piece in the season opener. Think about how hey handled other characters leaving/going on hiatus - a quick mention about 3 month vacation or anger management class, and then back.

The temp now has Jan's job - he is now Micheal's boss - that should be fun to see.

I loved the Andy interview scene -- "What is the best color?" "White (blah blah)" "WRONG!" LOL Funny. And who ever calls "time" in an arm-wrestling match?

Since intern-ryan got the job (didn't even consider he'd be Michael's boss - awesome!), that means Karen still works in Scranton. She'll be back, and the uncomfortable vibes will (hopefully) be hi-larious.

I laughed til I cried at the last scene. "You and I are done." "WHAT?!" and then that look into the camera. Beautiful.

I don't think she will since Rashida has a pilot elsewhere. At most we'll get a few moments as they usher her out of the storyline. Given that we will pick up 3 or 4 months into the future, I would guess they address the situation in the past tense, only through interviews with Pam and Jim.

The look was amazing. In an episode full of great moments, that one was probably my favorite.

One aside-- is anyone else bothered that they turned Jan into such a kook so quickly? Part of the joy of the show is seeing how reasonably normal people respond to the lunacy of Michael and Dwight. Jan was a key member of the "normal people" on the show and they turned her into a lunatic with gigantic breasts very quickly. Some of the great moments of this season were her coming to grips with her love/lust for Michael. In retrospect, those moments feel false now that we know she was pretty much insane all the time.

I dunno-- I could have done with that storyline being played out differently.

-Jason "I hope Jan remains a character on the show... and that's not just because I liked looking at her... you know  " Evans

I don't see that. I thought they had been building up to this for a season and a half. Her major justification of the Michael Scott relationship was a desire to indulge 'certain self destructive tendencies' she was working through with her therapist. She has been on a pretty steady road downwards since the Tim Meadows episode last season where we first learned of her divorce.

Being dumped by someone as clueless as Michael could easily be the straw that built the camel's implants, or something like that.

Hahaha, I had forgotten about that interview sequence but even a week later, it still cracks me up:) I hope Karen comes back for a few episodes, if only to properly tie up her story arc, but my hope is more wishful than anything else. The Office has shown a willingness to dump characters with little fanfare and combine that with Karen's new pilot and Jim driving back alone without explanation, I fear/expect that Karen is gone forever. I always liked Karen's slightly sarcastic edge and am probably one of three people in the entire world who wanted her and Jim to end up together (sigh).

As for the last scene with Ryan (the temp), I actually found it a little mean. Kelly is comedic gold, an annoying character that isn't overly so. For all her flaws, she's a very nice person and I thought Ryan ended it waaayy too cruelly and abruptly. It would have been much much better (and funnier) to have an awkward protracted break-up fitting of their relationship.

I completely agree. She was such a sympathetic character following the casino episode and although you didn't understand why she was into Micheal, you rooted for her to find happiness. Jan was also the only "normal" counterfoil to Micheal and was initially cast as the no-nonsense boss for Micheal to provide greater contrast to his antics. With the recent revelations of her craziness, I feel like all the character development and emotional attachment for Jan has been thrown aside. She's a completely different person now... sad.

The woman, Mindy Kaling, who plays Kelly is actually a writer on the show. Last fall, she was on Fresh Air (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=6422523)and talked about writing the Diwali episode -- a great bit of radio if you need something to listen to on your commute home.

Also, she, John Krasinski (Jim), and Angela Kinsey (Angela) were all interns on Late Night with Conan O'Brien.

Thanks! I live in Northern Virginia so I am always looking for something to take the sting out of my interminable commute.

Everyone knows the guy who plays Ryan is a producer on ths show, right? Half of the cast are people who have other jobs on the show but also act.

Makes you think twice about how hard it is to be an actor, doesn't it?

By the way, the main thing missing from the season finale was Toby-- he cracks me up.

I loved the bit in "Beach Day" where Pam says she's wearing a two-piece, and Toby gives a mean-stare to Michael on the way back to his desk:D

My favorite recent Toby moment was in the episode a few weeks ago when Michael goes to New York to ask Jan for a raise, and Jan makes him bring Toby as a witness. During the meeting, Michael says something predictably idiotic about his relationship with Jan, then looks at Toby (who is diligently taking notes) and says, "What are you doing?" Without looking up, Toby replies, "Just preparing for your deposition."

Later, when Toby is talking to the camera crew, he says, "This may the first time in history that a male subordinate has threatened to withhold sex from a female superior in order to get a modest scheduled raise."
