As a follow-up to the historical sweet 16 appearances chart I posted earlier in the week, I have created the same chart for the final four, posted on my blog at www.jeremy-morgan.com:

This chart shows the number of times each team has made the final 4 since the tournament expanded the field to 64 teams in 1985.

All games from 1985 through this year are included. The number of appearances is included in parentheses behind each team’s name (teams with only 1 win are not included in label).

Each team is shaded based on its winning percentage in the final 4 (winning percentage is through the 2009 tournament for Duke/MSU). The darker the blue, the higher the winning percentage. Teams are sorted based on their conference membership today, not based on their membership at the time of elite 8 appearances.

Top ten teams (teams in bold will play on Thu/Fri)
1. Duke (11 appearances, 7 wins)
2. North Carolina (9 appearances, 3 wins)
3. Kansas (7 appearances, 4 wins)
4. Michigan State (6 appearances, 2 wins)
5. Florida (4 appearances, 3 wins)
5. Kentucky (4 appearances, 3 wins)
5. Arizona (4 appearances, 2 wins)
5. UCLA (4 appearances, 2 wins)
9. Michigan (3 appearances, 3 wins)
9. Syracuse (3 appearances, 3 wins)
9. Arkansas (3 appearances, 2 wins)
9. Indiana (3 appearances, 2 wins)
9. Connecticut (3 appearances, 2 wins)
9. UNLV (3 appearances, 1 wins)

Duke's had an incredible run under Coach K. It's great to be a Blue Devil fan!

Let's make this 8 wins, or 9 if you count the championship game as well.
