Duke, Baylor playing twice for Final Four berths
HOUSTON (AP) -A double dose of Baylor and Duke for NCAA Final Four berths.
Top-seeded Duke and third-seeded Baylor play in the men's NCAA South Regional final on Sunday. Then, on Monday night in Memphis, the Duke women and the Lady Bears square off for a spot in the women's Final Four.
It is fairly common for schools to have both of its teams advance to the round of eight in the same season. That happened three times in 2009 and 14 times since 2000, according to STATS LLC. But this is the first time ever that there has been the same regional final matchup in both tournaments.
Duke women's coach Joanne P. McCallie calls the quirk "kind of interesting.''
Bears center Ekpe Udoh (Epp-Ay You-Doe) says it is "just going to be fun to see'' Baylor versus Duke both ways.
