I have absolutely no confidence in Maryland. I think they are as likely to lose their next game as anyone.

Well, GV has proven that he can rise to the occasion and the occasion has arrived. Add in the fact that Gary has bred the idea into basically all of his teams that they get no respect and much of the supposedly toughest competition is gone, and I think this MD squad will respond in a very spirited way demanding that respect. I see them making lots of noise.

It's big ten vs ACC. Love to see Ga Tec get it.

Not a cakewalk by any means. They'll have to go through MSU, Northern Iowa, and potentially OSU. None of those are gimmes.

I don't think so at all. Evan Turner will lead OSU to the Final 4. UNI would probably knock off MD too. I think MD gets too much credit for being basically a one-man team.

No reason to assume that Maryland will beat MSU. They probably should, as I think they have the better guard play. But MSU won't be an easy out.

Ohio State is good, and so are the other teams still standing. Maryland is in trouble as soon as they face a team with at least a decent pg and a strong inside game. Don't look for them to just blow it, though. Gary is a big-time whiner with a little-brother complex (he basically is the Cliff Barnes character from the old TV series Dallas) but he does know how to coach.

They may indeed beat the Spartans tomorrow. But it will be no cakewalk.

They have a decent chance -- MSU's guards are injured. If they can get past MSU I think they will get to the Elite Eight. Don't know if they can handle Ohio St though.

If the officials allow the customary big ten football contact, msu will win.

i don't bet against tom izzo in the ncaa tourney. Even though i think maryland is better, i think they crap the bed tomorrow and msu moves on.

I have recently purchased tix to the Final Four and I am located in the middle of Big Ten (Ohio) country but I would love to see Maryland and Duke make the Final Four as an ACC fan.

I think they would have a tough time against Ohio State but they would have a good chance. I have seen OSU play alot since the Big Ten Network is a part of my Cable lineup.

Maryland's only chance, if they make it to OSU, is to play great defense against Turner and Diebler. If they hold them to less than 30 pts total and get some of OSU's ancillary players in foul trouble then they can win. I personally would love to see two of the best oversized guards going head to head.

GAWD! Can you just imagine the trash talk we'd see from suddenly emboldened Terp fans next year if this happened??!

Actually, with NC@CH battling for respectability in the NIT - damn, I woulda loved to see a NCSU rematch for them - I have found myself MUCH more empowered to root for our conference and all of the ACC teams this year. (Go Yellow Jackets!!)

And I have heard commentary about MSU's "chemistry" and injury issues late this year. After all, coming in to the tournament they had gone just 5 - 5 over the last ten (!!). I actually think GV and the boys pull this one out, despite Sweaty Gary getting out-coached.

BTW, can't help but enjoy the Big East's misery so far... Looking for Purdue and MSU stumbles soon to take care of the Big 10/11. And if someone knocks off KY, the perception will be that this tournament is WIDE open... Hmmm.

I couldn't disagree more. Vasquez may be the best player but the Terps have been a "team" ever since Gregory returned from his suspension. They share the ball and have been second to the Devils as having the most efficient offense among ACC teams and one of the best in the country. They have four players in double figures and a fifth who averages 9.6ppg. They have three youngsters on the bench who have each been instrumental in wins during the year. They don't have any McDonald's kids and only two of their players even show up on the RSCI recruiting site. They don't have close to the talent of Duke or several others in the NCAAT and they have only gotten as far as they have by playing as a "team". I see the Terps being much more similar to the Butlers, St. Mary's and N. Iowa's than the Syracuse's, Duke's and Ohio State's. They have very little margin for error and must play a good game to get past Michigan State today. If not, they had a successful season, IMO.

LOL I'd actually love to see a lot of trash talk from a Vasquez-less Maryland fanbase. It would make it so much more fun when we hand them a beating at the Comcast Center, but, realistically, I don't think they'd remain emboldened after more than 3 or 4 ACC games.

I've watched every MSU game this season. The chemistry stuff is way overblown. The injury problems are not.

That will probably be the difference today. With Allen down, Raymar Morgan gets the Vasquez assignment, and will likely spend the day in foul trouble. Izzo may also go to his walk-on defensive specialist, Mike Kebler, because he's a big kid who is surprisingly effective on players like Grievis.

Terps will likely win the game by 6-7 points, getting ahead and holding off a late Spartan charge.

MD should make the Elite 8 if they win today, but I don't see how they beat OSU. They don't have anyone who can stay with Evan Turner.

Obama doesn't think so (http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/blog/the_dagger/post/Obama-takes-a-dig-at-Maryland-coach-Gary-William;_ylt=AnsVhqKHk_vgT8nLo9mQa3nevbYF?urn=ncaa b,229172)

"I like Michigan State here," Obama said as he picked the Spartans to defeat the Terps and advance to the Sweet 16. "Maryland's got a great player, but Michigan State's got a great coach, and I think that makes the difference."

politics aside, finally something something everyone here can agree on

OSU has to get by GaTech, not a given. The Buckeyes were fortunate to win the Big 10 tourney squeaking by UM on a last second miracle by Turner and going to double OT to beat the Illini where Turner got the Michael Jordan treatment from the refs.

Tech is bigger deeper and can defend. If they limit their turnovers and continue to make their freethrows then they could advance to the FF.

I don't. Their fanbase raises its children to hate Duke (not necessarily speaking literally here). I basically cheer for Maryland only when desperate for ACC props. They're up against Izzo right now, whom I like and respect, so I want them to lose in humiliating fashion.

Lauderdale at OSU is a Duke hater. He mentioned not being a fan in an interview during his senior year of high school, after he committed to Ohio State. He must've hated it when Zoubek dominated him when they played against each other that same season.

well not if they don't beat MSU. Right now they're down 5 in the 1st, but they've made up 5 pts off the deficit, which was 10 a few minutes ago.

Agree. UNI guys can dribble, pass, shoot, rebound, play smart. Seems MW is pretty much wide open to the team that gets hot, plays solid game-by-game.
