We should beat UNC but it would be great to see Maryland lose to UVA. It is a road game but Landesburg will have to play and play well. I don't want Duke to have to share the regular season title.

I don't see why not. We need them to beat the twerps if we want a chance to win the regular season ACC outright. Then all we'll need is to handle a little business with our pals from down the road.

Someone should cheer for UVa. It might as well be us. All the Virginia fans have given up (http://www.thesabre.com/message_board/basketball/2010/March/5/1194142.php).

Go 'Hoos! I'd be pulling for them over the Twerps anyway, but given the conference standings, heck yeah, I'm pulling for UVa! Hopefully Landesburg will be able to go, and UVa's style of play may actually cause Maryland some difficulties. This is not a gimme for Maryland, and Maryland is a team prone to coming out flat from time to time. I'd love to finish in sole possession of first place in the ACC reg season, and cap that off with an ACC tournament win.

Maryland, I have to say, would be the perfect team to win an important game and then blow it against a team they should rightfully beat. Who else do you think is capable of this? Maybe Virginia Tech?

MD is a head case; they think they've already won a share of the regular season title. I could really see them losing this game.

Living in MD, I know all the terp fans are overlooking this game. I hope their team is doing the same.

remember you never fear the team/person with nothing to lose......:)
Go 'Hoos!

Note: The ACC does not have an official regular season title.

Regardless, I'd root for Virginia.

There's only one team that I would root for md against and we're playing them tomorrow night. So let's go Virginia and as always Go Duke!

Actually, I think they do.

IIRC, the Conference Champion is the winner of the ACC tournament, but the conference also recognizes the Regular Season Champion. Teams are allowed to hang a banner for this as long as it specifically says "Regular Season" on it.

This was discussed on this board 4-5 (?) years ago. I think UNC started hanging banners for the mythical regular season title and the ACC said it was OK, though there is NOT an official regular season championship. I can't find the thread... help anyone?

I'll try to look, too, but I think it started ~1990 for Clemson.

Georgia Tech comes to mind, too.

You guys are right - Maryland is precisely the team most likely to lose to a struggling Virginia team right after defeating a surging Duke squad.

I'm concerned. I hope the players are. I know Gary is.

I think Duke has the tougher game. Most likely, Duke and MD will both win out.

Good luck (not really ;-) ).

That was my understanding, too.

And you know what? On DP today, K mentioned he definitely felt that the regular season is undervalued, esp. w/r/t picking NCAA participants from mid-major conferences. The tourney winner gets in; the regular season champ gets hosed. Yes, there are not many great teams this year, but there are many more good ones.

Bilas said on Mike and Mike the other day that they should shrink the tournament, there's just not enough good teams.

I think Seton from DP said it best: let's defer talking about expanding the tournament until a 16 beats a 1.

But probably what K means, besides combining the 2 NCAA "properties" (NIT & NCAA Tournaments), is not that a 16 should be able to beat a 1, but if you had seeds 33-96 going at it for a round, some of those 65-96 seeded teams are going to win.

Love K, but I'm not with him on this one. It should be a thrill to make the NCAAT, and a team like UNC '10 should not make it unless they win the ACCT.
