JP Tokoto at the Game

I think JP Tokoto was at the game. Perhaps Roy's goal of getting him there for a bigtime game backfired, as he watched Duke knock off the home team. Hopefully we can get him to CIS so he can experience a real homecourt advantage AND see the home team win, all at the same time.

I disagree, I think Duke missed a chance to blow out UNC. That place was rocking (for as much as it can) and a pretty good atmosphere.

I had to listen to this game on the radio due to some flight delays. The place sounded dead. For 90% of the game you could hear the players talking and the sneakers squeaking. Pathetic for a big game if you ask me. Even the radio announcers were commenting on how the game atmosphere seemed more UNC-St Mary's than UNC-Duke.

I have no idea what kind of impression the game made on Mr. Tokoto, but I was in the Dean Dome last night and the atmosphere was amazing -- amazingly dead.

They reacted when UNC did good things, but in between the frequent blocked shots or occasional 3-pointers, the place was silent. The wine and cheese bunch was back in force ... or maybe they've just given up on this team. Cameron at its worst was better than the Dean Dome last night -- and at its best, it's infinitely better.

But to get back to Mr. Tokoto, I dispair of reading too much into these situations. I remember when Harrison Barnes visited for the Blue-White game and everything seemed to go great ... I remember Patrick Paterson's visit for a great BC win in 2007 -- Cameron was great and we had the Shelden Williams retirement ceremony at halftime ... again, a perfect scenario.

We didn't get either.

I can remember all these Kentucky posts over the years for players who attended their Midnight Madness and were supposedly blown away, then didn't come.

BTW, I would think the most impressive pro-UNC event of the night was the Hansbrough jersey retirement at halftime. That's one of the few times the crowd behaved with some passion.

What all this means, I don't know. Tokoto could have watched the game and thought, 'Wow, Duke's the better coached team ... I love how they use their wings ... I want to play there.' Or he might have looked at it and said, 'Wow, UNC is so devoid of talent, I can come in here and make an immediate impact at a place where I'll be on TV all the time.'

You never know -- Len Chappell (one of the great players in ACC history), once said he picked Wake over Duke because he didn't think he was good enough to play at Duke!

Oh well, all that said, I still hope we get the kid to Cameron to see what a real college atmosphere is like. Then again, wasn't he at the Duke-Wisconsin game? If so, he saw a much louder, enthusiastic home crowd there than he did last night.

Then ESPN did a great job with cameras, because it looked pretty good all night. Of course the crowd went wild on big plays, like any place, but I never got the "dead" sense at all. Interesting.

I didn't see Tokoyo on TV but I did see Harrison Barnes sitting behind the orange water cooler behind Roy Williams. Unless I'm mistaken, I looked back at the game on my DVR and Harrison was never shown standing up behind the bench. There were several times everyone was standing up but him and his mom stood up for the majority of the game. Did anyone else catch this?
