David Brooks is far from my favorite columnist in the Times, but he has an interesting column today about the ways in which college sports can have a positive effect on the character of students and other people who are fans. Among other things, he says:
"The crowds at big-time college sporting events do not sit passively, the way they do at a movie theater. They roar, suffer and invent chants (especially at Duke basketball games)."
