I was thinking maybe we could do a top 10 for the next few weeks and then shift to a top 25 maybe by the end of the month. I am just kind of interested to see what other people think outside of the AP :D

Here is my top 10 in case anyone else is interested.

1) Texas
2) Kentucky
3) Syracuse
4) Kansas
5) Villanova
6) Purdue
7) Duke
8) Michigan State
9) West Virginia
10) Tennessee

9. Wisconsin
10. Georgetown

I am not sold on Kentucky even as good as Wall and Patterson are. They are very young and undisciplined. Lots of talent though. Wisconsin will likely drop soon due to the injury bug, problem is, it is a head scratcher figuring out who should replace them. And after watching this year's holes team rip Mich St I cannot put any stock in them either....

OK, why not:

1. Kentucky
2. Texas
3. Kansas
4. Syracuse
5. Perdue
6. Villanova
7. Duke
8. West Virginia
9. Georgetown
10. Wisconsin

Maybe if you can get enough people to give theirs each week you can compile them into a DBR top 10 or top 25 or whatever.

I'm having a hard time this year with ranking the top 10. To me, there is not one really great stand-out team, which, for me, makes for a great season

Texas at #1 is all i know for now.

1. Texas
2. Kansas
3. Syracuse
4. Kentucky
5. Nova
6/7. Purdue/Duke - Toss up here for me
8. West Virginia
9. Georgetown
10. Wisconsin

Get's tough to rank after the first 3 or 4 for me. Nova looked average against UL in the 1st half tonight but looked good in the 2nd half. Kentucky is good but i dont know about their youth and inexperience

10. Wisconsin

Kept Kansas over Texas simply because I think they're better.

I know Villanova smoked us last year, but are they really that good this year?

They haven't beaten anyone of note, winning by only 2 points against a Marquette team that lost to NC State at Marquette. Plus, they lost to Temple, a decent team yes but one barely in the top 25. Their body of work doesn't compare to those of Duke, Purdue or Syracuse.

Temple is ranked comparably to Georgia Tech, Wisconsin, and Pitt in the top 25.

Surprised to see Tennessee in some of your Top 10s. Do you guys think they are one of the 10 best teams in the country?

I think it's the Top 3, then a small dropoff to 4 - 6, then a bigger dropoff to 7 - 10.

There will be a TON of upsets in the tourney this year.

We've been through the "one game is too small a sample to jump to conclusions" bit a whole bunch since Saturday, but I think Kentucky's game tonight at Florida – win or lose – will tell us much more about the Cats than any of their 16 games to date.

This question get to the heart of what are these polls. If they are really who I thought the top ten teams were the weekly results would have very little to do with it. If they are who has had the best season to date, then the poll should have a great deal of fluidity every week as wins and losses pile up. Problem is that I think different voters vote in different ways, including a vast majority who vote in a way that sort of combines both of these factors.

I don't see loads of bball, save for a good amount of ACC, and every second of Duke possible. But last eve I caught almost all of Nova-UL, and if that Nova team shows up, they're arguably a 1-seed.

UL's press was more impressive, more vigorous, more effective, more physical than Duke faced [so far] v. Clemson and GaTech. So much so, that well into 1st half they were dominating Nova into TO after TO. But Wright calmed them down, and they just came right back, and fought UL fiercely for remainder of game, led by a brilliant Scotty Reynolds.

Wright plays a legit 9-man rotation, even 10, with fine mixture of vets and talented frosh, heavily guard-oriented, quick. Taylor King is a nice fit, 6th man, solid rebounder, really.

On Nova's body of work, I don't see it as obviously inferior to the 3 you mentioned, but, on a very, very weird sidenote, what's with Big East scheduling, as Nova and Marquette have already played each other H&A, on consecutive Sats. Weird.

Their two losses are comparable to Duke's two losses, and their best win is better than Duke's best win. I don't see how you can keep them out of the top 10 at this point if you're using actual results.

Btw... Purdue goes down again. Not to jinx it, but we've got a fairly easy week, so we should move up some...

I agree with you entirely about Tennessee. I doubt that they will be able to keep it up throughout the season, but when you look at results, they definitely deserve to be in the top 15, if not the top 10. And my poll is based on current results rather than predictions about the next month. With 13 of the top 20 teams losing last week, I don't see too many teams more worthy than the Volunteers for the 10 spot, at least for now.

Also, if Duke wins their two home games this week, it should be a nice boost in the rankings. Georgetown at Villanova and Syracuse at West Virginia should be interesting games to look out for.

Duke lost by 22 to a team that hasn't cracked the rankings this season? News to me.

Pamtar, thanks for compiling the rankings.

Should I start a new thread for next week or should we just keep posting our polls in this thread?

Id check with the mods. IMO, a new thread would be easier to follow but they might want to keep it all together. Who knows? The DBR Top 10 might compete with the national polls! Although, we would probably have tend to overrate the home team;)
