The kid actually had some scholarship offers from low-majors, so he's not just a big stiff. Family has some financial resources, so he could afford to pass on the scholarship offers to come to Duke in hopes of walking on.

Certainly has better credentials than did Patrick Johnson when PJ walked on.

There was a big and totally unrecognizable kid at the end of the bench today. I did some research (goduke.com - wasssup) and learned that we have a new mid season walk on (not unlike mr. griffin tormey). His name is Todd Zafirovski (F-52) and he is HUGE (6'8" 260 - BOOYEAH). I love walk ons, probably more than many starters, and can't wait until this kid becomes the human victory cigar during the final moments of our round 1 ncaa tournament win. WELCOME TODD.

Ha, no, not Pole. Unless I am mistaken about his identity (and I very well may be,) the kid's background is Macedonian.

Yes, Mike is his dad.

Our new player's father (Mike Zafirovski) is the former CEO of Motorola and then later Nortel Networks. He was born in Yugoslavia (present-day Macedonia) and immigrated as a teenager to the US speaking no English.
