Since I was a kid , I was a huge zombie fan. I watch all the Romero films ,along with all the others that tried to mimick him. As I got older I started reading books about these loveable flesh eaters, lol, as well. Author Max Brooks wrote some great books about this . World War Z , and Zombie survival guide where really well writien books from a different view than all the movies we all have seen. But That being said I have been looking for something new to satisfy my guilty pleaser . If anyone knows of anything let me know,if not let me know if there is any more fans of this genre.

Zombies really give me the willies, so I generally don't watch that stuff. Off the top of my head, I can think of a few things you didn't mention. If you're a zombie fan, I'm sure you've seen all of this stuff, but it never hurts to try:

Films:
Zombieland (2009, horror comedy)
28 Days Later... (2002, horror)
Shaun of the Dead (2004, comedy)

Book:
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (there's an off-topic thread that Jason Evans started this week)

Try "Dead Snow", it's got Nazis and zombies.
Or if that doesn't ring your bell checkout, "Versus". You can't go wrong with a flick that has Yakusa members, Samurais, and Zombies in it.

I've got an XBOX game coming out soon, a tower defense game about surviving a zombie attack in a city... it will be only like five bucks and will be available on XBOX live:) Probably mid January... so if you want to hold off until then...:)

We've had quite a problem with zombies in Austin. Here's a news article from earlier in the year on raising public awareness of zombies.

I take it it'll be an xbox live user created game? Speaking of games and zombies you have:

Left 4 Dead series
Resident Evil series
Dead Rising
House of the Dead series
and numerous games where zombies are a type of enemy, even if the game is not focused on them specifically.

It is indeed, although the coder for the game is actually a lead on the Halo team, so it isn't exactly an amateur team:) In fact, I am the only amateur in the group!

Hey all!

Happy to announce that the XBOX Live game I made with a fellow Duke '97 guy is now available!

Zombie Armageddon! (http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/media/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d8025855046b/)

It is a tower defense game, in which you have to escort survivors across a destroyed city, stopping at night to send soldiers to nearby rooftops to try to hold the hordes away... It is a traditional tower defense game, with some real innovations, such as how you deploy, how the buildings you occupy impact the game, and of course over 10 minutes of original movie to fill you in on the story!

Here is the trailer...

Zombie Armageddon Trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xobzACSwqz4)

Anyway... if anyone here is on Live and wants to pick it up (I think it is only a couple of dollars) that would be great.

Super excited!!

Congrats! I don't have an Xbox (or a PS3...) but if I ever get one I'll be sure to get this game.

What has been the biggest challenge in your experience? I seem to remember you worked in a small team. For my iPhone project (1.5 developer, .5 IT, 1 artist), the biggest issue was finding the right artist. That probably set us back several months, because there is only so much developers can do without some design feedback and seeing how things look. We weren't able to pay anyone, which was the biggest hindrance in finding someone to work with us.

Another issue was we had a hard deadline, since it was a winter sports themed game - another challenge we're facing in our next project with certain event happening in about 3 months (hint hint )

It was indeed a very small team... only 3 main people, and another added later... one did the majority of the coding, one did most of the preparing/converting for XBOX and the funding, and one did the vast majority of the art (that was me.)

I am not sure what our overall toughest part was... I think part may have been coming to consensus... all the other guys in the group are long-time Microsoft devs who have released a lot of well known games (they worked on the Train and Flight sims, and currently on Halo) and I have made a few free games as well (a pair of Napoleonic wargames and an American Civil War/American War for Independence game) and also do a LOT of non-computer game playing and making... while the wealth of experience was great, it was also tricky to balance everyone's input... however, it worked out okay in the end. Graphics were a bit tricky, in that no one has any 3D modeling experience or anything, and I am hardly a professional artist or anything... the graphics are fairly basic, and we brought in the fourth guy to do the 3D buildings and environment work... but in the end, I think everyone agreed that graphics are WAY secondary to a good game experience.

Our deadline was not as tough as yours... for me, deadline work is tough, because I hate making any sort of gameplay sacrifice because of them, but the other guys are very used to it, so they kept me in check.

Your iphone project was the curling game, right? Great graphics there, very professional looking! If I had an iphone I would totally get it:)

Hey all!

Just thought I would pass along some of the comments from the Peer Review phase, in which game designers have to play the game and either Pass it or Fail it... I REALLY hope some fellow Duke grads can give it a look, because honestly that would mean more to me than most groups who might check it out...

Reviewer 1: It's a great game (I just played for an hour and a half while "reviewing")...

Reviewer 2: Nice job. I played this quite a bit longer than I intended to.

Reviewer 3: Hard as heck, at times feels impossible, but I can't put the controller down...

Reviewer 4: Fun little zombie game.

Reviewer 5: Pass. Very nice game

Reviewer 6: very enjoyable... nice sounds... no garbage

Reviewer 7: I absolutely love this game.

Hey LA,

Congrats on the good reviews - I'll be sure to check it out this weekend! Or rather, I'll have Mr. DA check it out - I don't game (beyond Freecell), but I'm a supportive gamer-wife.

Sounds good, thanks!

Just thought I would share some "official" reviews that are starting to come in!

From www.gamergeddon.com we even made the "intro" for the entire section!

Some nice releases in this (weeks) round up, in particular Zombie Armageddon which surprised me a lot.

Zombie Armageddon is a Tower Defence style game with some nice touches. A city is being overrun by Zombies and you must build defences to stop them. So far so Tower Defence, but the extra touch is you must also rescue civilians and upgrade towers with a Jeep. The Jeep must also be defended against the Zombies otherwise it will blow up, so sending it out at the correct time is essential. Also worth noting are the cut scenes which are done quite well with voice overs. Don’t let the graphics put you off as this game looks to be really well made, it does feels cinematic in a strange way. Zombie Armageddon costs 240

And then this one from... yes, gaygamer.com. Yes, that is serious. Whatever, they dug the game and put it in the "Yay!" catagory! Be sure to check out the single comment on the page too:)

Zombie Armageddon - 240 MS points. Zombie Armageddon combines two popular staples of the indie game channel: zombies and tower defense. The game plays out in cities, with the existing buildings acting as your towers. Unlike other tower defense games though, you must deploy a jeep from your base to actually reach a building and set it up as a tower. This means that there can't be too many enemies along the path to reach your build site, which changes up the strategy from other games where you can build towers any place at any time. The buildings also have different heights meaning that taller buildings will block the aim of shorter ones. I really enjoyed the new strategic possibilities that Zombie Armageddon offered, which were enough to overcome the overly-serious tone of the story's narration.
