The new report was released today. Duke's is here. (http://web1.ncaa.org/app_data/apr2006/193_2006_apr.pdf) These numbers are based on three year averages that compare each school to other schools in the same sport and other schools in all sports.

Duke's numbers in the major men's sports are quite good, placing in the 90th-100th percentile in football, 80th - 90th in basketball, and 70th - 80th in baseball when compared to other schools in the same sport. The men's golf, cross-country, soccer, and track teams also placed in the top 10 percent. Lacrosse was in the 70th to 80th percentile. The only Duke men's team to place below the 70th to 80th percentile was the fencing team which finished in the 30th - 40th bracket.

The women's teams are good, but not quite as strong. Only the track and soccer teams finished in the top 10 percent. Some of the lower numbers include golf (50th - 60th), field hockey (40th - 50th), and rowing (20th - 30th). Basketball finished in the 70th - 80th percentile.

There is controversy on the way as ESPN is reporting that historically black colleges and universities comprised 13 percent of the 99 schools receiving warning letters from the NCAA. Many schools in the areas hardest hit by Katrina were also on the list. Conversely, no BCS schools received a letter.
