So, last night on 15-501 in Durham on my way home, I'm passed by a (?) Honda with an NC plate that said, simply, GTHC. Anyone want to claim ownership?
Was I in the presence of royalty?

The year was 1959, the year before the Duke football team was nationally ranked and went on to the Cotton Bowl.

I used to see some tool riding around Durham with UK7Duke2 license plate back in the 1990s.

That person would undoubtedly be turned into quivering jello at the mention of the great Christian Laettner.

One of my friends has a license plate "G2HCG2H". It's a Virginia plate. Anyone student who drives/has driven around in the Blue Zone on campus might have seen it.

When I was in school, there was a duke employee in one of the lots who had a plate that read:

FUDEAN

In AZ my plate use to read: DUKEFAN. It now reads CAMCRZY. If you are ever out in the valley of the sun, you have found me!

I went to a book signing for Bill Simmons' "The Book of Basketball" and got him to inscribe it to my brother in law "Dean Smith is the anti-christ, Bill Simmons". He added the word "smoking" himself before antichrist which I thought was a nice touch.

According to my sister, it was not well-received... : )

That makes me want to move to Kentucky to get L8NR.

I recall seeing GO2LCLNA (NC plate) on a Mustang GT around campus in the early 1990s.

However, I must acknowledge the best sports-related license plate I've heard of goes to a unc fan. The tag was 57334 09.

Turn it upside down, and note that the lettering on NC plates is kinda blocky, which makes it work better. Come to think of it, the 4 might have been an H.

In NC you can check whether a tag is available at

https://edmv-sp.dot.state.nc.us/sp/PersonalizePlate

I don't think it screens for vulgarities, etc., just whether something is taken. Anyway, the very best possible (non-Duke related) personalized plate, BORT, is still available. Quick, someone grab it.

When I went to see Duke play at the MCI Center in Washington DC, I pulled in to a parking garage and on the license plate it said JJs Mom. Thought that was great since I was a big JJ fan so I followed them around to their parking space and walked to the stadium with them. Then after the game had JJ sign my #4 jersey that I have framed now.

I took this picture of your previous car a couple or four years ago while walking out after a game. I spoke to you last year as you were waiting in traffic.

Ozzie, I do remember meeting you that day after a bball game. Good pic, though the car is different now. I keep intending on making a pic of the plate as my avatar. Maybe this will finally inspire me to do it!

"TRUEBLUE" having been snatched long ago, I opted for "TROOBLOO" for a while. But, discovering how many locals here in the Dump on the Hump lack knowledge of phonics and the pronunciation of a double O, (the retards either would say 'truh bluh'? or 'trouble'.......duh) I found it necessary to switch to "TREWBLEW". They seem to be able to grasp that a little easier.
Love, Ima
PS Not to worry, the plate is in a Duke University frame.....leaving no doubt as to the shade of blue it is referring to.

Ima, remind me to bring you one of my old bumper stickers. I'll upload it on CTN. This place isn't crazie enough...

This has nothing to do with anything, but the owner of Illinois license plate 2 parks on the street in my neighborhood. It's on a Honda Accord. The governor gets 1 (I've seen it parked outside the Thompson Center in downtown Chicago) but whoever owns 2 has held it through the last change in administration, so it's not assigned based on politics.
