We are going to the Highlands for a 2 day sledding trip as a reward with some of the kids in my program. Anybody spent any quality time up there and have a great housing suggestion? I've just started looking at cabins and thought I'd see if there are any tips. There will be 10 boys, 2 chaperones.

Check out vrbo.com (http://www.vrbo.com). My girlfriend and I just got a killer three bedroom cabin in Lake Lure for the New Year.

Right between 106 and 28 on the south side of town. Nice assortment of room types (they have some kitchen units), decently furnished, very reasonable rates.

I like Highlands, but I prefer to stay in the Dillsboro/Sylva area (PM me if you want a lodging recommendation for that area). Much more convenient to the rest of WNC. If you stay in Highlands, getting anywhere that's not Highlands or Cashiers involves 30 minutes of driving on mountain roads behind people from Florida doing 20 mph. Even in December.

Wait, there's sledding in Highlands? Last December 31 I was hiking in WNC in a T-shirt!
