Orlando Magic shooting guard J.J. Redick will soon become the latest basketball player with his own unnamed rap group.

According to Redick, he’s part of a “rap super group” that will release a new single before the end of the year titled “Waste Management.”

“We’re working on a rap CD,” Redick revealed. “We actually haven’t come up with a name from the group, we’re throwing around some ideas right now.”

As a hip hop fan i can tell you that No one and i mean No one has started off in another form of entertainment and actually made a rap album that people didn't laugh at. Not even Shaq who was probably the best.

People aren't sure that it's real, including the Chronicle sports blog (http://sports.chronicleblogs.com/2009/10/30/jj-adds-to-his-legendary-status/). Do a Google news search... there are plenty of people talking about it (and it looks like we're about a week behind here).

I hope he's not. Have some fun with it. Rap is so close to a parody of itself anyway.

which is interesting because hip-hop dominates just about every aspect of our culture....

It's a joke!! Allhiphop.com got duped. During the actual on camera interview, JJ and most of the folks in the background are visibly laughing...

I watched that entire interview where JJ claimed to be releasing a rap album and my impression was that he was joking around about the whole ordeal. I think he and fellow teammate Ryan Anderson were just having some fun with the media. He had a smile on his face the entire time he was being interviewed and was about to crack up laughing at various points in the interview. I highly doubt he was being serious about releasing a rap album. But if he did, I would definitely buy it!:D

If you've seen the video it's obviously a joke. Completely tongue-in-cheek.

The only thing funnier than JJ saying this is that some morons think he was serious. I wish more guys in the NBA had the ability to speak candidly with the media like JJ does. He is hilarious. I think most guys are afraid of sounding dumb. He only has to worry about dumb people not understanding what he is saying. The curse of being a Duke athlete, I suppose.

Or generally, as a Duke alum. I have this problem a lot.

Thank God it was a joke. If it was real I wonder what the lyrics would be like? Hopefully no mentions of condors.

I have to admit, I never liked Redick much in college (though I thanked the basketball gods he was a Dukie!), BUT, over the last couple of seasons, following him in the NBA, he really is an entertaining and funny guy. I have grown to like him alot more. There are alot of good clips at the magic media site.

I heard that it is real, and the cover art shows JJ blocking an attempted Howard stuff. Very impressive.:D

Just searching around youtube I found some more about JJ's rap group

Him and Ryan Anderson are the two magic players involved in this, and they named the group james clay after ryan and jj's middles names

Ryan's being james and jj's being clay

sort of hard to believe considering the cowboy hats JJ wore while on the Methodist Flats.

Or more generally, the curse of being an intelligent person (even if not a Duke alum).;)

Can't wait to watch the video tonight. Can't pump up the volume at work.

I read about this months ago. He seemed to be joking, but serious at the same time. Guess we'll find out sooner or later.
