Everyone keeps saying he's transformed himself, but I haven't seen any photos. Can someone post a photo for a comparison to last year?

I think that Kyle transformed a bit physically over the summer, but I think the big transform has come in his game. He is playing a completely different role this year then his first two years. I think this role will better suit his game and he will have a HUGE year!!

Singler's transformation would be a continuing refinement of his already considerable perimeter skills and a willingness to take on responsibilities commensurate with being a pre-season first-team All-American and ACC POY.

Dude's ready to dominate.

He doesn't look all that different to me, but it is difficult to tell from the posted pictures. Can't wait to see him, and rest of the team, on TV.

I watched the game last night and think his body is fairly similar to his body last year. He has gotten a bit more lean, but he still looks about the same. What I noticed last night, however, was that he definitely has adapted his game to more of a guard role. He appears more versatile and looks poised for a breakout season at the "3" position. He can now create his own shot off the dribble and pulls up on fast breaks for 3-point attempts. His ball handling looks better, too, and will have to be better in order for him to be a guard in Duke's system. He will have to be Duke's go to guy this season when they need a basket late in the game. He and Scheyer will have to be money down the stretch in my opinion for Duke to prosper.

By linking his photo from last year on DBR's game article today (11/4), I assumed there were obvious physical changes, which is why I originally posted this.

Well, the best I can do for you is share a photo gallery of the game last night against Findlay from newsobserver.com. Pictures 2,4,5,6,7, and 10 have Singler in them and you can be your own judge on how his body has transformed from last year.

So far (which is not very far), Singler looks like a potential NPOY candidate. His jumper is wet, he has the same work ethic inside, he apparently has learned to exploit height mismatches inside, and his baseline jumper is as good as last year.

If Duke gets him the ball in the right spots this year... LOOK.... OUT!!!

Rich, look at the GoDuke.com roster pages for Kyle's Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior Years.

He has lost 15-20 lbs since last year in bulk. Also, he won't be playing against bigs on Defense this year which will give him an extreme height and size advantage, allowing him to both shoot and pass over smaller defenders.

His first two years, Kyle was the one who inbounded the ball after (almost) every opponent field goal or free throw. While he handled this assignment well (except @Clemson), I'm hoping this year, with his move to the perimeter, someone else (maybe MP2?) will handle the inbounding. If so, expect Kyle to get a lot of transition baskets!

Maybe Jon because he can take a return pass and shoot the 3 if left open. Go Duke!

That's a long 3! I'm not sure it's in our gameplan to have Jon shooting from 90'. :D

Jon can do it. He has unlimited range. Anyway I was talking about in bounding at our own goal. Should have said that. My bad. Go Duke!

Singler was already a great player out of position. Now at the "3" he has the potential to be POY. Offensively he could explode.

singler wasnt really playing out of position last year. he may translate to a 3 in the pros, but in college, and in duke's system hes a great 4 especially with his rebounding skills. shane is/was a similar size and played the 4.

Offensively i dont see this having much impact other than him being fresher from not banging. he already was utilized on offense a perimeter player b/c of his good jumper. not to mention we dont have positions on offense

Exactly. Singler is an NBA 3, but at the college level (where most teams play NBA 3s at the 4 spot) he's a college 4.

That said, Singler did spend a LOT of time playing out of position last year defensively. He was stuck playing the 5 spot quite a bit with Henderson/Thomas/McClure at the 4. This year, he jumps from out of position defending the 5s (equivalent to NBA 4s) to out of position defending the 3s (generally equivalent to NBA 1s/2s).

But offensively, I think the major changes are that he'll be generally guarded by smaller players and he'll pretty much always have a big man on the floor to pass into the post. He'll still handle the ball on the perimeter a lot like last year, and he'll still do most of his attacking from the perimeter like last year. He just won't do it while being guarded by college 4s/5s.

I'm not sure that I have ever read/heard anyone use this descriptor when talking about a players jumpshot. I hope you don't mind if I steal it. "Man, that P&L statement is wet!" ;)

I think the term comes from the visual comparison of the net snapping up after a swish to water splashing when a rock or other object is thrown into it. As a result, I'm not sure if it translates to a P&L statement but I don't want to ruin your fun.

ESPN "experts" make the picks for the teams...Singler is the choice for either first or second team on all ballots except for one. He still however ends up on the first team overall...

And Bilas is the only one who does not have Singler on either team!

There's a shocker!!! If you would have told me one of their experts would leave Singler off the first two teams, I would have bet the house on Bilas. As great as I think he is calling a game, it kills me in how much he goes out of his way to prove he is "Un-Bilased" in his comments towards Duke. Talk about overcompensating!

Maybe it's just what Jay thinks. Although I think Singler is great, it doesn't strike me as absurd to leave him off.
