The article on Derrick Favors from the front page says he has a wingspan of over 9 feet. Nine. The official GT athletic website says the same thing:

Powerful forward with a 9-foot, 1-inch standing reach and a wingspan in excess of 9 feet

I can't claim to have measured Favors' wingspan, but if this is true, and I'm guessing it's not, it would be by far the longest wingspan I've ever heard of.

Hasheem Thabeet had the longest wingspan at last year's NBA Draft combine by 4 inches (7'6.25").

Each one of Favor's arms would have to be about 8 inches longer than Thabeet's.

If only Patrick Davidson was still around - HE could handle a man with a 9 foot wingspan! :D

One of the measurements is almost certainly wrong. Look here (http://www.insidehoops.com/chicago-camp-measurements.shtml). The standing reach is generally about two feet longer than the wingspan for someone abou 6'10". Seven feet and a bit sounds right for someone his height.

I hope he doesn't leave scuff marks from scraping his knuckles on Cameron's floor.

So he could touch, without jumping, a rim set at 9'?

And while touching the rim at 9' with one hand, reach down with the other hand and pick up a quarter from the floor?

Doubt it.

a lockdown defender!

(Yes, obviously, it's a mistake - but still makes good fodder for humorous comments)

Wingspan has a lot to do with a player's width too... someone with broad shoulders like Favors or Elton Brand is naturally going to have a larger wingspan (though Elton also had freakishly long arms too). I guess that's why they take both wingspan and standing reach.

Even so, nine feet has to be a mistake.

There was a guy with a wigspan over 9' with narrow shoulders, Reed Richards. I think he became a doctor. Was a great team leader.

I think his wife Sue, was a formiable player as well. She could really put a lid on the basket.

Some of us aren't familiar with this (apparent) inside joke.

Formidable at times. But most games she would just disappear.

Thanks for the assist!

You shoulda seen Sue's brother Johnny. When he got hot, he was HOT!

And their buddy Ben was a real rock in the middle.

I think it's a misprint.

This (http://www.nbadraft.net/node/1571) article from last year says he has a 7'2" wingspan. Unless each of his arms grew by a foot, he's not Mister Fantastic.

Favors had a solid game, struggling some to create offense but was his usual dominant self defensively with 8 blocked shots. Regardless of his great length and elite level athleticism and fluidity, there are concerns about his position for the highest level as he's not quite 6'9, although his 7'2 wingspan allows him to play bigger.

I think Richards is a relative of this guy.

They were thinking of going to retro short shorts until Reed's name came up.

Is he still available, or does Calimari already have him locked up?

Check out this old article on Manute Bol:

Where's Manute/ (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/magazine/06/26/where.manute/)

"With a 10-foot wingspan he averaged one blocked shot for every 5.6 minutes he played."

I think his wingspan was actually 7'6 3/4".

Good thing they specified that 3/4". It would have been unreasonable to round up to 7'7"...

I think G-man was always listed at 6-11 3/4.
