Just read this excerpt from Bill Simmons' upcoming book:

I had no idea that Mullins was a pivotal figure in the merger (go to point #4 in the article).

NOTE: I'm assuming this is Duke's Jeff Mullins. Can't imagine that it isn't.

I mean, after all, he was the senior class president for Trinity in 1963-1964. All that, plus an ACC championship, a Final Four, and an Olympics gold medal.

Seriously, I do now remember he was the head of the players association, but I had no idea his role was so instrumental. And he didn't even benefit from it, retiring shortly thereafter.
