Should be the first of many.

" Duke quarterback Thaddeus Lewis has been named the Walter Camp Foundation's National Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Blue Devils to a 49-28 win over N.C. State. Lewis completed a school single-game record 40-of-50 passes for 459 yards and five touchdowns in the victory over the Wolfpack.

A senior from Opa-Locka, Fla., Lewis accounted for six total touchdowns while engineering the Duke offense to 502 total yards against an N.C. State defense that entered the week ranking first in the ACC in total defense by allowing 239.2 yards per game. His 459 passing yards mark the fourth-highest single-game total in school history and, with the five scoring tosses, he became Duke's all-time leader in touchdown passes with 59, breaking the previous record of 55 held by Ben Bennett (1980-83)."

Thanks Jim, and congrats to Thad! That's awesome...but he earned it. It's great to see him recognized by people at a national level.

The O-Line should be very proud that Thad received this award. It's their award too. A truly outstanding job by the men up front.

And the receivers! But just an awesome day for Thad Lewis. He's worked hard enough to deserve this honor. I doubt the tutelage of Coach Cutcliffe and his fine staff have hurt a bit... ya know?

Agreed. The line went from one of our biggest questions to pretty darn impressive. I don't know who the O-Line coach is but he has got those young guys running at full bore.

Thad, great game. Duke Nation is smiling brightly today, and you deserve major kudos for an amazing performance.

Bravo.

Congrats to Thad, the O-line, the receivers, the coaches and especially Coach Cut! Well deserved and it was so much fun to watch last night in person!

Being there for that performance was fantastic! The stop on 4th and 1 was the turning point to me. Plus, 2 screw ups on punt returns...I've never seen that before...ever!

Congrats to Thad Lewis...(superfluous) "Job well done!"

I just absolutely love love love Thad's comment when asked if Saturday was the best game of his career? Paraphrasing a bit, "No, we have 6 more games to play!" Very cool attitude!:cool::cool::cool:

I tried to goad Thad into predicting a 7th (i.e. bowl) game. But he wouldn't bite. Very disciplined. :)

ACC Player of Week.

No surprise.

I do think a case could be made for Connor Vernon as rookie of the week.

" Duke senior quarterback Thaddeus Lewis added his name to several school and conference record books and collected the Walter Camp Foundation National Player of the Week honor to headline a list of Atlantic Coast Conference players of the week announced Monday. Five of the six honorees represent teams that scored 40 or more points in a win over the weekend. Overall, seven conference schools (Duke, Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest) scored 40-plus points in a win in the same weekend for the first time in the league’s 57-year history.

Offensively, Lewis is joined by Georgia Tech senior guard Cord Howard as the Offensive Lineman of the Week and Virginia Tech freshman running back Ryan Williams, who captured Rookie of the Week honors for the third time in the last four weeks, and fourth time overall. ACC defenses were highlighted by Wake Forest senior defensive tackle John Russell and Virginia junior cornerback Ras-I Dowling, as the Defensive Lineman and Defensive Back of the Week, respectively. Maryland sophomore wide receiver/return specialist Torrey Smith continued to leave his mark on ACC record books in taking Specialist of the Week honors.

OFFENSIVE BACK – Thaddeus Lewis, Duke, QB, Sr., 6-1, 215, Opa-Locka, Fla. (Hialeah Miami Lakes)

Duke senior quarterback Thaddeus Lewis, in addition to earning Walter Camp Foundation National Player of the Week honors, etched his name into several record books in helping the Blue Devils to a 49-28 victory over NC State. Lewis completed a school single-game record 40 passes in 50 attempts for 459 yards and five touchdowns against a Wolfpack defense that came into the game leading the league allowing just 239.2 yards of total offense per game. Lewis’ 459 passing yards is the fourth-highest single-game total in school history and 18th-best passing performance in league annals, while his five touchdown passes tied the second-best mark in Blue Devil history. Lewis also scored with his feet on a two-yard run in the first quarter, giving him responsibility for six touchdowns in the game, matching an ACC single-game record. Additionally, Lewis became Duke’s all-time leader in touchdown passes with 59 and achieved 8,000 passing yards for his career, becoming just the 16th player in the ACC to accomplish the feat."

Congrats to Thad. Very well deserved.

Reminds me of the guy sitting in front of me at the VT game. He kept saying through the entire game that Duke was starting the wrong quarterback. After yesterday's game, I can't wait to ask him during the Maryland game if he still thinks the wrong QB is starting.

It certainly silences a lot of Thad's critics for the time being.

I know this won't help if you don't have ESPNU, but the game is being shown again at midnight tonight.

Another national honor for Thad.

Check out the also-rans at the end of the article.

"The Davey O'Brien Foundation has named Thaddeus Lewis, senior quarterback of Duke University, the O'Brien Quarterback of the Week for week six. Lewis adds his name to the 2009 O'Brien Watch List after leading his Blue Devils (3-3) to a 49-28 upset over the North Carolina State Wolfpack.

The Blue Devil signal caller threw for a career-best 459 yards, completed 40 of 50 attempted passes and threw for five touchdowns to end an 11 game losing streak against the Wolfpack. Lewis also converted on 13 of 18 third down conversions and after a close first half, led his team to three unanswered touchdowns to close the game.

"You have to give Duke credit. Their passing game is very sophisticated and they have a guy at quarterback [Thaddeus Lewis] that can handle the offense," said Tom O'Brien NC State head coach. "We had all kinds of trouble covering guys."

Lewis and the Blue Devils have a bye week before they return home continuing conference play Oct. 24 against Maryland.

Meh, no big deal. Thad's always been in their company in my book. :D

So someone who knows more than me: what are Thad's pro prospects at this point?

Well, since he's a senior he'll probably make himself available in the draft..... :)

Absolutely amazing performance. NCS had a meltdown on special teams at the end, but before that it was earned. Thrilling to watch.

He is certainly on NFL teams' radar, but I don't think he will be a kid who gets drafted on the first day of the draft. Most folks seem to project him as a late rounder, 5th-7th round or so. A lot will probably depend on how he does at the combine. If he turns in impressive athleticism kind of numbers then it may boost his stock some. Still, I have a hard time seeing him being more than a late rounder and battling for a backup job.

Of course, being a NFL backup QB is not a bad job at all, if you can get it ;)

I have always seen Thad listed at 6-1 or 6-2, which is good. He better measure out at that height when he goes to the combine. The NFL hates short QBs. Drew Brees is like the only good QB in the league who is under 6-1, I think. There may be more, but the vast majority of NFL QBs are in the 6-2 to 6-4 kinda range.

Its amazing that Thad made that list, what with being too short to see over the O-line, unable to read defenses and too slow to outrun me.

(Sorry... I couldn't resist.)

I've been around him and I really don't think he is over 6'0". Maybe when he stands up really straight, but I don't think so.
