According to the report, a 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe, operated by current Jayhawks player Markieff Morris, 20, was traveling south on the right side of the two-lane street. Morris said he was preparing to make a left turn onto 17th, but as he did, he struck the rear passenger door of a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am that was just ahead and to the left of Morris.
Though the report listed damage at or equal to $1000 to the Grand Am, Morris, three passengers in the Tahoe (a 20-year old male and two females ages 16 and 22) and two females in the Grand Am denied medical attention.
The responding officer indicated that there were no visible signs of impairment.
It is unclear whether Morris’ driving a car reportedly owned by a former Kansas player violates NCAA rules regarding improper benefits.

No joke... that was my first thought. What the heck is in the water down there?
The 23-year-old Morningstar ... had nearly twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system at the time.
...charges included speeding and failing to keep his car in a single lane. Douglas County prosecutors say all charges will be dismissed if Morningstar does not have any further legal problems in the next 12 months.

Well, except that you've got two separate incidents conflated into one. Morningstar's DUI involved speeding (78 in a 70) and being drunk. There was no property damage or underage girl. Diversion is a pretty common scenario for someone getting their first DUI and having no prior record. But whatever. And diversion is hardly, don't do that again. No permitted use of alcohol or drugs for a year, complete a drug and alcohol counseling program, subject yourself to random tests, and may involve suspension or limits on your license. And he paid fines, fees, etc. up to $1,000.
Another player had a car accident in the fall. There were two girls, aged 16 and 23 in the car. The car was owned by his teammate. Pretty big deal. Should have switched to GEICO.

The car was owned by a former KU player who had played professionally. IT IS A BIG DEAL.

There has been alot of off-season problems out there. Lack of insituitional control? Is anyone driving the bus?

No. It wasn't. (http://www.kansascity.com/166/story/1496342.html) You're just wrong on this. The car at one time, was owned by Scot Pollard. He worked through KU's compliance department to sell his 12 year old Tahoe to Tyshawn Taylor. Taylor bought the car for whatever value was allowed by compliance (I assume they'd just use blue book value). Taylor loaned the car to his teammate, Markieff Morris, who had a car accident where no one was hurt, no alcohol was involved, and where insurance in Taylor's name was provided at the time of the accident (it's difficult to insure that which you don't own).
There is no issue here other than a good lesson that you should never loan your car to a Morris brother. There has been a bunch of dumb stuff going on, but this isn't A BIG DEAL. You'll have to get your schadenfreude elsewhere.

Well, I digress then. I obviously didn't do my due diligence. Based on earlier reports it was made to appear that Pollard still owned the car. Thanks for the info, CrimsonAndBlue.
