Why does it seem people really seem to inflate their expectations for averages? This seems to happen somewhat often... someone will say "So and so will be average... if we can get 8 points and 5 rebounds out of them I'll be happy."
But... an average of 8 points and 5 rebounds is really pretty good!
Why do you think people have a tendency to have somewhat unrealistic understandings of averages, and what constitutes good/bad/average averages? And does it happen more often in certain places (steals or rebounds) than others (points?) Why?
