"Duke senior first baseman Nate Freiman was selected as the ACC Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and headlines a 2009 All-ACC Academic Baseball Team that includes a conference-leading nine Duke Blue Devils.

Freiman, a First Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America and Duke’s all-time home run leader, graduated from Duke with a 3.83 grade point average as a History major and Math minor. An eighth-round selection of the San Diego Padres, Freiman led Duke in batting average (.352), home runs (20) and RBI (62) for the third consecutive year on the way to earning second team All-ACC honors.

Also a finalist for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, Freiman is one an ACC-record nine Duke players on the All-ACC Academic team, joining senior classmates Matt Williams and Andrew Wolcott, juniors Jeremy Gould, Alex Hassan and Ryan McCurdy, sophomore Jake Lemmerman and freshmen Eric Pfisterer and Will Piwnica-Worms."

Essentially, this is Duke's starting lineup. Kudos to all concerned.

All-ACC? Heck, I would ask if this feat has ever been duplicated...out of any conference.

In an era when many professional and collegiate athletes are anything but "scholars and gentlemen," our rejuvenated baseball team demonstrates that the NCAA's favorite term -- student athlete -- is a great deal more than a cliché. CONGRATULATIONS to them, their coaches, the Athletic Department and Duke.

It's interesting that the 3 other relatively small private schools (BC, Miami, and WF) total 4 on this team, while all 6 of the players from Ga Tech major in management. It's also noteworthy/impressive that the other 4-time guy aside from Freiman is an aeronautical engineering major at State.

Overall numbers:
BC: 1
Clemson 4
Duke 9
Florida State 2
Ga Tech 6
MD 3
Miami 2
NC 3
NC State 1
Virginia 5
Virginia Tech 3
Wake Forest 1
