Kinda surprising seeing he really played well in the Summer League.

Surprised and disappointed.

Hopefully, his play this summer impressed somebody else.

As a heel, I always liked Nelson. He played hard and never did anything obnoxious or dirty as far as I could tell. too bad about this, but I wish him the best in Italy--he's still very, very fortunate to get paid to play basketball, and in one of the most beautiful countries to boot.

Any idea why the waiver? Sorry to see this happen but as another poster said, Italy is beautiful. Here's hoping he stays healthy, has fun, and plays to the best of his ability. He'll always be a star to me.

It's a cost-saving move by the Bulls in deciding not to carry a 5th PG. With Rose, Hinrich, Pargo and Hunter, Nelson would be the 5th option at PG, so they decided not to retain him..

Nelson is just a fringe NBAer, and he apparently didn't show enough in the Summer League to convince the Bulls that he could develop into a backup PG.

i am inclined to believe you (especially because of your pic of mata-real, my favorite non duke basketball player (mostly because he looks like ali g), but i digress) - is there an article that backs this up?

DeMarcus Nelson joins Air Avellino - Aug 28, 2009 (by Antonello Varallo)
Air Avellino agreed terms with young talented american shooting guard DeMarcus Nelson (193-G-85, agency: ZAG Advocates, college: Duke). He is California High School Scoring Leader (3,462 Points), and he played 117 games at Duke University with 10.4 ppg.
The player from Oakland will play in Italy after his first pro season spent with Golden State Warriors (NBA), - he has been the first undrafted rookie to start on opening night in the history of the NBA and he played 13 games with 4.1 ppg-, Bakersfield Jam (D-League), 9 games with 16 ppg and a season high of 24 points, KK Zagreb (Croatia-A1), just 1 game with 2 points, and Austin Toros (D-League), 11 games with 23 ppg and a season high of 39 points. I wasn't sure if he was still the California High School scoring leader. That's still a very impressive feat. The one that shocked me though was that he was the first undrafted rookie to start on opening day in the history of the NBA.

Good luck Markie.

I'm pretty sure that this is NOT true and the Eurobasket just used his wikipedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demarcus_nelson) as a source which states the above as fact and has a reference after it making it seem like it's legit. But if you actually look at the link, it doesn't say anything regarding that. The San Francisco Chronicle actually states (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/10/29/SPBI13PHS4.DTL)that DeMarcus was "the first undrafted rookie ever to line up for the Warriors on Opening Night." So, I think it's not the entire NBA, just Warriors history. But I could be wrong, I guess. I can't find any other source stating the entire NBA except wikipedia.

It's funny what gets picked up by seemingly legit news sources just because of what was on a wikipedia page. Obviously, always need to take what's on wiki with a grain of salt and verify the facts. This reminds me of the 22 year old Dublin student who made up a quote (http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2009/0506/1224245992919.html) by French composer Maurice Jarre who died at the end of March on his wikipedia page as an experiment on globalization. The quote was then published as an actual quote in the Guardian, the London Independent, the BBC Music Magazine, and other places even though the guy just made it up.

In any event, to get back on topic. Good luck Markie! His ride has certainly been eventful and I wish him nothing but the best.
