A lot of people on this forum had a high regard for Dave. What is his future outside Duke Basketball. I really have no clue. Is he going to play in Europe? Is he going to grad school? Is he going to dig ditches? I believe that whatever he does he will be successful. Any word?

I agree; McClure is largely an "unsung hero" and is clearly a very smart, team-focused and personable individual. I wish him well and would love to see him on scholarship in some Duke professional school program.

Here's a link from Duke Blue Planet. Dave's occupation is listed as professional basketball player. http://www.dukeblueplanet.com/basketballbeyond.asp?tid=66

The magazine version of Duke Blue Planet back in May indicated the Future Plans for McClure as "Pursue a professional basketball career in Europe."

Tonight he was drafted by the Austin Toros of the D-League (5th round).

That's Quin Snyder's team. Good luck Dave!

Yup! I think the last Dukie to play for Quin was Williams while attempting his comeback. Snyder has done well in Austin.

That's right I forgot that was Quin's team. Does anyone remember what NBA team they are with?

Their website also has the Spurs logo on it. Good team to be connected to with a team oriented philosophy and heavy on defense.

Yes the Spurs are a great team to be connected with. I believe they are a lot like Duke in that they are team oriented. I think Dave would fit in great there. I also hear that Coach Pop is a defensive genius.

DeMarcus Nelson played for Quin last year before he got called up to the Bulls.

Is he going to dig ditches?

my mom and dad repeatedly used that phrase to keep me focused on college. "do you want to grow up to be a ditch digger?" my mom would scowl....

about 3 years ago, the water pipe from the meter to the house broke. It was old and needed to be completely replaced. a new ditch had to be dug the entire length.

a guy came out with a pickup truck, unloaded his "ditch-witch" and talked on his cell phone while the machine did an amazing job digging a trench of exact proportions.

the bill? $480.00 time it took? 1 1/2 hours from the time he pulled up.
he said he had 2 more jobs before he knocked off for a golf match with some of his lawyer buddys.

i called my mom and said, "WHY didn't you let me be a ditch digger?"

Of all the teams for Dave to be associated with, the Spurs are definitely the most fitting. He is a Spurs kinda player. Lets hope he has success:)

Love this post. If I talked back to my mother, she would smack me sideways

Hadn't seen this mentioned on here...he's playing for Austin. Has 3 games under his belt. Hasn't put up spectacular numbers...but definitely something worth watching!

Oh, in light of the last bit of news I've posted...pretty sure this one is true, not a glitch on the NBA website meant to raise and then dash the hopes of Duke fans.

His stats per game look quite good.

Thats true, his averages are brought down by one game where he only played 4 minutes. In toe two games where he got 19 and 10 minutes he did quite well, with 9 boards and 3 blocks combined. Still not showing much offense though.

Remember...it's McClure. I'm pretty sure whatever team he is on, it will always be for his support and not his scoring. He CAN score, but rarely does so and it's always been by choice.

I guess K does keep the players' appearances on the conservative side...check out McClure's look these days...I thought Yannick Noah had another hoop playing son:

McClure's problem was that he never developed a reliable jump shot. If he wants to play in Europe, he at least needs to be able to hit open jumpers, because everyone else there can.

I wouldn't say that he doesn't have a reliable jump shot - he's just not a shooter. A quick look at his D League stats shows that he is all over the place and he was apparently on fire in his last game. His all around game would keep him on the court in Europe.

As I was watching the UCONN/Kentucky game last night I thought that Kentucky needs someone like McClure. Whenever McClure was on the floor everybody else played better (and smarter). His mere presence hiked up the basketball IQ and team-play of the rest of the group. He will be an asset to whatever team eventually picks him up.

I see a slight resemblance to Rick Fox. But he looks happy!

I have always thought Dave had a future in the League. Maybe it's just because of his passing resemblance to another under-the-radar type Kevin Martin?

I hope Dave does great things in the future, he always played with alot of heart, and was a great team player.

I see a slight resemblance to Rick Fox. But he looks happy!

Considering Rick's active (and based solely on superficial appearances, wildly successful) social life, I believed Rick usually looked happy too!

Although I find comparing a beloved Devil to a tar heel distasteful, if Dave's social life is as "successful" as Fox's, I believe he will forgive the comparison!
