Jim and others,

Why don't you guys just refer the new poster, longtime Duke fan, to Throaty's sticky and be done with it. I read the boards to stay up to date with everything that is going on with anything even remotely related to Duke bball. This latest back-and-forth is more than frustrating, and taking up too much of my usual amount of allocated hours of wasted time.

Feel free to talk barbecue when things get slow or redundant around here!

Here's a writeup on a little place in central Pennsylvania that may serve the best BBQ I've had north of the Mason-Dixon line.

This website roadfood.com has several Texas spots you're probably familiar with. Yummm...

Now you're talkin', Roy. That bbq Po'boy on the main page of the website you linked looked like it could just jump off the page and into my mouth. Great site. Thanks for the link.:D

When the off season postings become tedious or frustrating, I work on research for my tailgate menus.

Are you going to grace us with an appearance at a football game this season?

DITBD,

I know how much of a devoted Blue Devil football fan you are, but I am not at the stage yet, myself, that I could travel any farther than Asheville to catch a game. Now, as you know, bball is different. When I move to Asheville, I promise to meet you at a few games.

Think about the food and the socializing before the game ...... The excitement of the Devil Walk and all that cheering is a great experience.....if you experience the pre-game excitement, the game becomes more interesting.

We always need more Dukies in Asheville....TarHeel love is strong here. If we can decrease their proportional strength though, we might have a shot at decreasing their critical mass bandwagon effect.

Also, since someone mentioned bbq...has any been to 12 Bones in Asheville? best place for place for BBQ, i mean REALLY REALLY good.

If you will go to the last Duke vs Kentucky thread, you will see the accolades I gave 12 Bones. It's one of the few reasons I could give up some of my regular jaunts to Kreuz Market in Texas by moving to Asheville.f It's much easier to move closer to some of the best NC bbq ever, than to drive 2 1/2 hours to Lockhart and back on a Saturday to get the best Texas bbq ever.

I'm happy to hear that someone finally put in a report, other than mine, on 12 Bones. While Lexington #1 may be the gold standard for their coarse chopped with some outside brown, 12 Bones has just so many different kinds of things that are outstanding---even their sides are just soooooooooooo tasty. I will be dropping by sometime between 7/28 and 8/4, while I am in town. Maybe I can meet you there?

Wow, I thought you meant this place, which is about an hour east of Pittsburgh, which is lick-under-your-fingernails first class Memphis 'que...

I don't know if they're related (no evidence of such on interweb); I will see if I can round up the research arm of the Wrong Side of the Mason Dixon Line Duke vs. Kentucky Snarfers (abbreviated WSOTMDLDVKS) and get them to work....

Turk, I think they're related or somehow connected; the writeup I came across talks about them moving from Port Matilda (about 40 miles west of State College) to Charlottesville (which is north of Altoona). But I've heard some other Penn State tailgate folks talk about a Blairsville location, which is what your link covers.

The only one I can personally testify about is what was previously in Port Matilda. Really good food (and the menu looked about the same as the menu on the link you posted, as best I recall).

Further research and taste testing is of course welcome.

Gotta love it when the band flies in right before the concert, leaves right after the concert, but barbecue is a high enough priority that the Edge has it delivered to the band's private jet before they leave town...
