With the sad news about Elliot, not to mention the hoopla surrounding the draft, it seems that we haven't paid sufficient attention to a major verbal commitment for WBB: Haley Peters, a 6'3'' forward from NJ who is ranked #17 in the class of 2010 (and the #2 forward) by ESPN:

http://insider.espn.go.com/ncw/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=67621&season=2010&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fncw %2frecruiting%2ftracker%2fplayer%3frecruitId%3d676 21%26season%3d2010

Duke is after some big-time players, although I don't know how they stand with any of them:

http://insider.espn.go.com/ncw/recruiting/tracker/school?page=considering&season=2010&schoolId=150&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fncw %2frecruiting%2ftracker%2fschool%3fpage%3dconsider ing%26season%3d2010%26schoolId%3d150

As we know, the talent differential in WBB is such that you need a lot of top 50 recruits, so this could be very big.

Goduke also has an interview with Trisha Stafford-Odom, the new assistant:

Good news indeed. Haley is an outstanding student, and her mother is a Duke graduate.

Additionally, brother Casey is already at Duke and will be a walk-on for Coach K in the 2009-10 season.

Thanks for the update. I'm hoping the addition of Coach Odom will help us out a lot.

A brother and sister both playing for Duke? Aw, that's cute. Does anyone know if that's happened before in Duke basketball?

I've been at a new job recently and so this news story kind of fell through the cracks for me, too, but it's great news! I haven't read much about her yet, but I look forward to seeing Haley Peters on campus and playing for the most awesome team in the world! :-D

FWIW, Duke already has a committment from a top 2011 player, combo guard Ka'lia Johnson, from Chester, Va.

thats very good seems like she still has some work to do to get better but she still has two years so the class of 2011 could turn out very very nice especially if elizabeth williams goes to duke, whoever gets williams is gonna have a very very good post player and very good defensesive player as well, she gets quite a few blocks but its not just that she also alters shots because of her length

ESPN says that she is "one of the biggest shot-blocking forces in the country," along with a number of other accolades.

Let's hope that she continues to lean Duke's way.

me too, the only problem is that she doesnt score a whole lot but alot of that has to do with her being double teamed alot, but i think that this year she will be a bigger scoring threat because princess anne has a guard named samisha powell who is a scoring monster she dropped 34 in the state championship game this past year. if she continues this scoring it will allow elizabeth to be a bigger scoring threat because she will not be constantly double teamed.

Somewhat off topic, but as long as we are dealing with WBB, goduke indicates that Wanisha Smith ('08) was just named an assistant at Longwood University in Virginia.

Word on the street is indeed that Duke is #1 ranked Elizabeth Williams' #1 choice. She is interested in pre-med and loves Duke's Medical School. However, I would expect UVa to make a very strong push for her, especially with new Associate Head Coach Tim Taylor coming on board. Duke is also the top choice for 2011 Whitney Knight of Kernersville/Winston-Salem. She's a 6'2" sg and was one of 21 players invited to try out for the USA 16U team.
