Sorry if this is the inappropriate board...mods, move it if need be.
I have a picture that I'd like to upload as my avatar, but it's a large, high-resolution file. I have managed to cut it down to an exactly square image I'd like to use, but it's still huge (2022 x 2022). The BBS won't automatically resize that, so how do I do so myself?

Open picture in Paint or what ever picture/photo/art program.
Shrink the picture until it fits. :) 'Stretch/Skew' in Paint.

Although not as good for this particular task (with specific pixel requirements), this is my favorite tool for image resizing:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx
Download and install the image resizer, then whenever you need to downsize a pic (say, for emailing to the family), just explore to the pic file, right-click, and choose 'resize.' Viola, instant copy in a smaller size.
GREAT AVATAR, by the way. What kind of dog? Obviously, some kind of bully breed, but looks not quite english bulldog.

Half English, half American bulldog.
I found that out after I had named him Sir Walter Raleigh.
Pretty much perfect.
