I have a bird feeding area in front of a big triple window in the breakfast room. I'm about to install a new post for some thistle socks. This little vignette in the bed around the house has attracted many goldfinches in the past along with some cardinals and other colorful mid sized birds. Now is prime bird watching season!

Yes, the thistle socks work well for the finches. However, when we got one, the goldfinches would monopolize it and push all of the house finches and other smaller birds away until they were finished. We called them the 'goldfinch mafia'.

Last seen perusing the triple tube deck feeder: a 300 lb black bear who took the time to stand on his hind legs and prop up his front legs on our living room window, much to the delight of our two labs, and to lesser delight from my wife. Deck feeder is down until December 1.
