Best wishes, Carolyn. It's been a pleasure watching you for the last four years.

From Inside Lacrosse:

"Tough news if you’re a Duke women’s lacrosse fan, as the school has just announced that senior Carolyn Davis will miss the remainder of the year after tearing the ACL in her right knee in the first round win over Virginia.

Davis, who is a Tewaaraton finalist, ends her senior season with 59 goals and 15 assists, leading the Blue Devils in goals and second only to teammate Caroline Cryer in points. This is the second time in three years that Davis has had her year cut short in the NCAA tournament, as the NY native went down with a left ACL tear in the 2007 NCAA semifinals. The story of her comeback from that injury to star for Duke in 2008 was featured in the May 2008 issue of Inside Lacrosse."

Duke's press release:
DURHAM, N.C. – Duke senior midfielder Carolyn Davis will miss the remainder of the 2009 women’s lacrosse season after suffering a knee injury in the first 10 minutes of the Blue Devils’ first round game versus Virginia on May 10, Head Coach Kerstin Kimel announced this morning.

Davis, who led the team in goals and points during the regular season and was one of five finalists for the Tewaaraton Trophy, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee and will require surgery. The senior previously tore the ACL in her other knee at the end of the 2007 season.

“This is obviously a very disappointing turn of events for Carolyn and our team,” said Kimel. “She has been an integral part of our success this season and I could not be more proud of how she has handled this situation. Carolyn continues to set a great example for her teammates with regard to how you handle this kind of adversity. She looks forward to leading her teammates from the sidelines for the rest of the season.”

A preseason All-America in 2009, Davis turned in a stellar senior campaign that resulted in All-ACC honors and her spot as a Tewaaraton finalist. The New York native owns 193 goals and 54 assists for 247 points in her career. Her goal total ranks second all-time at Duke and her points third, while her assists also ranks in the top-10 in Blue Devil history. Davis scored a goal in 40 straight games heading into the Virginia contest, a streak that ranked third in the nation, while her 193 career goals ranks seventh among active players at the Division I level.

“I would also like to express my gratitude for the wonderful attention and care that Carolyn has received in the last few days from our athletic training and sports medicine staff,” said Kimel.

Those da*ned ACLs. How sad. We will miss her vs. Penn.

Best to the women laxers! Blue Prof:)
