i remember him. They used to call him Walking "Inda" Lane because his fundamentals were weak and all he could do was dunk (and sometimes it even went in).:p;)

The fact that the dunk is the birthplace of Raftery's infamous "Send it Jerome!" call only adds to its awesomeness.

My guess, on seeing this thread, was that this would be a youtube of Jerome.

It is, indeed, the nastiest. dunk. evah. Elevates, teabags the defender while kicking up his feet, and smashes the backboard. Yep, that's it.

The only reason that dunk is famous is because the backboard shattered and Raftery's call, otherwise it's just another posterizing, players dunk on other players all the time. Heck, I'd say Nolan's dunk against Southern Illinois and Dahntay's dunk on Dampier the other night were more impressive.

If they were still made the same way, I feel pretty confident that both backboards would shatter pretty much every day. Maybe I'm wrong though. As cool as it looks, not really a good way to judge how great a dunk is. Thats a good dunk for sure, but no way its the best ever.

This is a great dunk, but not greatest ever.

That goes to this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xp6qJ7LZNlg&feature=related) dunk.

Hands down. The dude he jumped was 7'2". And he jumped OVER him. Not into him. Not up to his head and tea bagging him. Not around him. OVER HIM. Greatest dunk ever.

It gets my vote as well!

2nd place goes to Phil Henderson for the throwdown over Mourning.....

They didn't make the hoops very well in the 80's...

I agree that Phil's posterizer over Alonzo Mourning was absolutely amazing, especially given the game and the moment. Maybe the best Duke dunk ever....or was it Dahntay, or G, or Grant, or Tink, maybe Nolan, or possibly it was Dennard? But I digress....

Check out this dunk. A DII game between Anderson and Coker. Greensboro, NC native, 6'3" Jarret Johnson levitates and throws down one of the most incredible dunks ever. You may have to watch this one a couple of times to let it sink in.....http://www.streetball.com/video/video/show?id=1024073%3AVideo%3A498041

Agreed....but block was the call. How would you like a chance at a 3-point play after that kind of slam. Does anyone know if he coverted it?

Not only was it a charge, but it looks like he puts his knee on the guys chest/shoulder and boosts off it. I'm not sure he makes the dunk without using the guy as a ladder. Horrible call by the refs. That guy was there a good second and a half before the dunker.

You may recognize the guard who starts the break and dishes to Lane for the dunk. That's Sean Miller, the former Xavier head coach and recently-hired head coach at Arizona.

Could we have a link to Phil over Alonzo. Maybe not the best, but a Duke favorite:)

And for good measure, here's Dahntay Jones throwing one down over UVa's Nick Vanderlaan (the famous "pushups" dunk):

I still like the first link the best, with the shattered backboard. The guy's body language is awesome, he doesn't even flinch. It's like he expected it to happen. "Oh hey, the backboard broke again..."

For pure nastiness and an awesome nickname, it's hard to beat Chocolate Thunder (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KeqKjXKGrFI). People were genuinely afraid to try to block his dunks.

Although this clip shows him breaking two backboards, his lefty dunk over Bill Walton at #5 is my favorite.

The 4 best dunks i remember in Duke basketball were:

(1) Gene Banks on Ralph Sampson
(2) Grant Hill against Kansas
(3) Phil Henderson on Alonzo Mourning
(4) Corey Maggette against Temple in 1999

also Greg Newton has a great dunk but i can't remember against who, i do know it was in Cameron.

Totally agree. While we're on the subject, check out this Vince Carter Top 100 Dunks mix. I know he's a Tar Heel, but you have to admit, this is pretty incredible:
