This is interesting in that Alex Tyus (6'8" 220lbs) is also the second leading scorer, so this isn't an issue of someone leaving for more PT - as has happened on occasion at Duke. I think this is the third "departure" in the last year. Jai Lucas left in November of '08, and incoming 2009 freshman DeShawn Painter (6-9, 210) was recently granted a release. The prior year, Brandon Mitchell transferred to Rutgers, and Doneal Mack transferred to Memphis.

Florida adds former McDonald's All-American 6-foot-9, 240-pound center Vernon Macklin, who transferred from Georgetown and sat out last season. and incoming 2009 freshman Erik Murphy (6-10, 220), and some kid named Kenny.

But could the luster be falling off of Billy the kid so quickly? Even with Boynton, Macklin and Murphy coming in, how much can an NIT team that loses its top two (and three of the top four) scorers improve? I hear that the freshman that was hurt this past year, Elroy Vargas (6'10" 215 lbs), is supposed to be good, but that gives Billy very little experience to work with. The leading scorer amongst returnees is 5' 8" Erving Walker, which suggests that Boynton will be playing off the ball.

To quote Florida play-by-play announcer Mick Hubert, "Oh my!"

So let's see, two straight NIT's, a transfer every year...yet we had a very large thread complaining about Coach K and our "success"? Good grief Charlie Brown!

He would be a good add for Duke if they had some available scholarships.

Tyus is a strong, athletic big man that Duke needs.

Maybe not, according to Goodman at FoxSports:

According to sources, it was a mutual decision. Tyus wanted to play on the perimeter while Florida coach Billy Donovan needed him in the paint.

I think he was speaking more towards the 3 transfers they have had in recent years.

Maybe Billy should have taken the Orlando Magic job after all...
