I'm going with Jarhead.

Hm. Jason Evans, because I would enjoy talking TV and movies with him.
Or Dukegirlinsc, because she loves Shane and is a fellow teacher, so we would have lots to talk about, and she is about as pretty as can be, and quite frankly we would make a very cute couple... as long as my wife didn't find out.
Or whoever it was whose name used to be bacon. Earljam? As a guy who got a christmas gift of 8 pounds of gourmet bacon from my father-in-law, I think we would have a LOT to talk about.
I also always liked Mike Corey. Just a nice, sensible fellow.
But wait... didn't Shane post here in response to the "Favorite Dukie" poll?

gvtucker or Jeffrey - because they probably do for a living what I'd like to do when I grow up...
Oh wait, I'm already grown up you say? Crap...that keeps on getting in the way.

I second CBB's motion, Throaty. When you get the chance, join us at one of our Brunchgates. I think all of us would like to make your acquaintance, IRL. My choice would be McGrupp, with throatybeard a close second. In fact, all of those guys that made up the Phalanx would be pretty interesting to meet. I think I took a picture of them at one game some years ago, but I have never met them.
When I read your post, throaty, my first reaction was a bit like the day when, in my freshman year, that guy from a fraternity told me they picked me to pledge. As soon as I said yes they started treating me like crap.

There's just no way for me to answer that question. There are so many of you that I admire and respect, but I don't think I've met ANY of you IRL. I'd love to make a brunchgate I guess, and meet that whole crew. Or the Atlanta mafia (does it even still exist?).
Jason Evans is definitely in the group that I'd love to meet as well.
Speaking of Jarhead, whom I DEFINITELY admire, have you ever been up to Quantico and eaten at the Globe and Laurel? What did you think of it?
Any of the former players who have posted here would certainly be on my list. I know there are several of them.

DKBaseball was the first one who popped in my head, but frankly, I'd like to meet all y'all at one point or another.
Oh, and I'd like to be able to thank Julio, Boswell and yes, even James, in person for creating DBR. :D

No, I never have been to the Globe and Laurel, but I am aware of its history. I was last at Quantico in the mid sixties, and it did not exist. It originally was in the small town of Quantico, the five blocks by four blocks town surrounded by the base and the Potomac River. It later moved to Triangle, VA., and still later moved to Stafford, VA. I have heard that it is a pretty good place to eat. Additional note -- the restaurant's symbol, the Globe and Laurel, is the symbol worn on the uniforms of the British Royal Marines. It probably also was the basis for the US Marine Corps Globe and Anchor symbol. Mrs. Jarhead and I go to Northern Virginia as often as we can, so we will look for the Globe and Laurel to try it out.
There are some other posters that I would like to meet, mostly for some very intense discussions that have come up over the years. I'm with you on Jason Evans. I print out a lot of his posts for Mrs. Jarhead. She'd like to meet him, too. I'd have to do some research, but off the top of my head, Formerddukeathlete would be a very interesting guy to know. He is so passionate about his love for Duke athletics, and the University, but he sometimes is a little overboard with the administration. I haven't agreed with him much of the time, but there are some ideas of his that I believe have merit.

I've met so many of the posters on the board already. It is great fun putting a face with a post or two! And my life has been enriched by the friendships I've cultivated off the board. I've met some amazing people here.
Is anyone going to be on campus this weekend for reunions or the spring football game? Let me know. I'd love to say hi in person.
I'd like to meet, in order of posting frequency, if they could step away from their keyboards for a moment or two, the following posters: Billybreen, Ymo, JasonEvans, Throatybeard, Jumbo, DevilAlumna and Shammrog.

I'm surprised you haven't been to the Marine Corps museum yet (cause if you had, you'd have been to Quantico more recently, since it's on Quantico's land ;)). It's really nice. The Globe and Laurel just moved to Stafford, just over the border from Prince William County, a few miles south of the museum on Route 1. You should check it out. I live a few miles NORTH of the museum right off Route 1. So, if you ever come up to check out the museum, maybe we could meet for lunch at the G&L or something.

Then of course I'd love to meet all the folks in the LTE :)

Years ago I had a chance to meet up with a few DBR regs at the regional in St Pete. It was good to put a face with the posters. One of the interesting things I learned that even tho I'm a 5'7 point guard, (formerly quick), I could no doubt post up StrayGator:)
I'd like to meet Jay Bilas and talk some hoops...so Jay if you are out there, here's the invite to come down for a little tarpon or snook fishing and a busman's holiday.

Great, great thread.
Though I was in school with several posters here, I've only actually met two regulars. The neat thing is that when I met them, each was my unofficial number-one-love-to-meet poster: Stray in 1999 at the ACCT in Charlotte, and DKBaseball last year. Both far exceeded expectations.
I can't pick a number one right now, so I'll pick three: allenmurray (because word on the street is that he's pretty beastly himself), EarlJam (because, well, you don't need a reason with EJ), and Julio.

I consider myself fortunate to have met a great number of DBR regulars in real life-- Jumbo, Throaty, Boz, Julio, James, Stray Gator, Ozzie, Olympic Fan... the list is a long one and I have left many deserving folks out.
The ones I have not met but would most like to meet are Bob Green (gotta hear about what it is like to follow Duke from the other side of the world) and JB Duke (who seems to have almost as much of a love of movies as I do).

I wouldn't post this on a public board. Someone from the NCAA might read it, decide it was a recruiting violation, and vacate all of our wins in which Scheyer played. ;)

That sounds like the first step of a plan. I seem to recall that you reside in Charlotte. Is that correct? Initials SD? At my age, memory is not a strong point, but I think I recall your name, and a few emails a couple of computers ago.
I will be at the brunchgates this fall, all games except NC Central. I've got to remember to send something to Ozzie. Maybe after I file my returns. (Ooops, I'm highjacking my own post. Sorry.) If you get to any games you should look for us. We are quite an assortment.

The Brunchgate LTE Group, as we started calling ourselves this spring (well, the name has evolved ever since last fall) is a group of DBR readers and posters who started tailgating at the football games last season. Most of us were hanging out on the OT board, posting in the Longest Thread Ever (LTE) and the Ymm Beer threads, and then planned our events in a separate thread for each game. When we had the first noon start for a TV game, the tailgate became a morning brunch. Hmmm, a brunch tailgate - Brunchgate was born! And since we're mostly all old enough to remember Watergate, and everything scandolous ( ;)) being called "something"gate, the name just evolved and stuck! We also have attendees who are NOT old enough to remember Watergate, so all ages are welcome.
We have purchased, well rented, one of the tailgate tents that Duke is offering for this fall, thanks to equal contributions from a number of our participants to reduce the cost per attendee. We will be located in the Card Gym parking lot, rather than the B-3 lot where we were last fall, along with 17 other tents. Bring food and/or beverage and please join us!

This is an even better, more detailed historical perspective but please refer to the new thread for the Spring Brunchgate invitation:D. See a bunch of y'all Saturday, I/we hope!
AFAIK, according to OZZIE who knows all and sees all (well, almost), the tent is not available until the 1st FB game this year, hence the gathering in the hopefully ungated lot at the corner of 751 and Science Drive as the Blue /Wannamaker/B-3 lot is not available due to student parking.

Sorry, I missed your post last night, and I had an early tee time this morning. I see that some of the other folks have clued you in on Brunchgate. If you get the chance, please join us next fall. We have a blast with good cooking, and soft drinks , and beer. A couple of the folks come with home brew, and the major topic of conversation is Duke football. Do you attend many of the football games? If you'll be coming to any of them, send me your email address by the DBR private message facility, and I'll see to it it gets on the distribution list. Check out this link to a Devildeac post (http://www.dukebasketballreport.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15704) that has more info.
